A while ago we had a discussion about amps, and different speakers and how they responded to pedals and guitars.
During that time I did discover that huge Gilmore sound, just stumled upon it while reconneting amps, speakers etc. But I did use valve amps.
Yesterday I discovered how the DD2 and the GE6 can really give you that huge sound as well, and as overdrive I used the MD2. Here is the order I used:
Compr.+ MD2+ GE6+ DD2 + RV2
I did split up the DD2 in one amp, while the RV2 went into another amp, both amps were small transitor ones, but the sound I did get was huge and very good for that sustaining lead tone. Switch off the DD2 and GE6 and gone is the magic!!
Try it out and see if you are equaly as impressed as I was at the time of the discovery.

Searchin' for pictures for our pedals I've found this site:
http://www.gilmourish.com/
Maybe you know it, maybe don't, but I think that could it be interesting.
I don't like Pink Floyd (I prefer other kind of progressive e.g. Gentle Giant or italian progressive), but I would like to have a site like that for my prefered guitarists. |

Ah, the Gilmour tone.... all in the fingers, isn't it? if I could bend a string like he does, I wouldn't need all these pedals....
Good call, though, if you can get the DG sound with an MD-2. I'm told he uses ProCo Rats, and I cannot get those damn things to sound anything other than horrible!
I guess an amp with lots of clean headroom helps - DG uses HiWatts, and they don't overdrive. |

The overdrive does not matter that much, I guess the BD2 will do as well, or the SD1. The trick is the GE6 and the DD2 [or DD3]: The GE6 for BEEF, the DD2 to get the BEEF even BIGGER.
Sure the RAt will do as well. Surprising to see that you can not get a good sound out of them. May need to tame them a bit.
The RAt is one of those pedals you can use to make things sound nasty, a bit like the HM2.
If you can not get a good sound out of the Rat, try putting an EQ after it to modify it sound radically, that should do the job.
Some of these things are so easy really!! |

I thought I saw some photos of Gilmour's pedal board where he had a GE-7 after each distortion pedal. He also used multiple compressors, CS-2 included. |

Has anyone of you here tried this combination yet??.
If you get that sound by using another combination I would also be interesting in hearing about that!!
