| Hello! I need a "wattery", "deep" chorus like EH Small Clone, but more versatile (RATE knob and Depth knob). EH Small Clone Depth not versatile, i can't turn the DEPTH what i want, i have only 2 positions. I think the CE-2 or CE-3 close to Small Clone, but i don't listen they, what do you think? I have CE-5 it's not bad, but it's more spacious than a wattery chorus, & rate with depth not so deep. Thank You... |

Hi nothingviolet (Violet)
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
May I suggest the Arion SCH-1 chorus, it's very watery compared to the CE-2.
It can be a little hard to find, as they stopped making them a long time ago, & people who know about them will bid high to get one.
Arion re-released this pedal as the SCH-Z, but it does not sound exactly the same as the original SCH-1. So be careful you don't bid for the wrong one.
They look cheap & are all plastic, they have a stereo mono switch & and (2) output sockets, if you need to run a wide twin amp spread.
I have just bought a second one as a backup, & to put into long term storage. The guys here know how much the CE-2 is appreciated, but the SCH-1 is wetter & deeper.
The CE-3 can sound very good if run in stereo mode, but is not as deep as the SCH-1
What type of music are you playing to need a really watery chorus?
Good luck & I hope this helped.
Regards Dr. Bob

Welcome to the forum..... on Dr Bobs advice i got a jap CE-2 and to me it's the best chorus sound i've ever used..probably not as watery as kurt cobains,a bit more subtle but good all the same, think of 80's pop bands like the police or the pretenders,i mix mine sometimes with a BF-2 for a deeper chorus sound..the police(andy summers)and dave gilmour were also was known for using a EH electric mistress for chorus so maybe if you could try one out as well...i used to had an old DOD FX-65 stereo chorus and i remember it being prety good as well except i find that the DOD pedals have a litle bit too much background hiss even when off unlike the boss which to me as very quiet..... |

One could add a DC-2 or DC-3 to boost the depth (without significantly altering the modulation of the chorus used with it).

Welcome nothingviolet, Although what I suggest may be several shades of violet. Right now I own WAY MORE chorus units than I have a right to. I, a short time ago was on the same quest you are currently on. I own EH Small Clone, DOD FX65, Digitech CF-7, & X Series Multi Chorus, Boss CE-3, CE-5 & DC-3. Along with 4 rack units that have chorus as well. I find the DC-3 paired with a BF-2 sounds incredible (hats off to FRANZONI's earlier post... birds of a feather). I don't doubt Dr. Bob either though (pretty sharp cookie, from what I've seen). I get this sound through humbucker's as well, which brings me to the next thought. I cannot find the post, but this was discussed earlier concerning a CE-5 & lack of the watery sound. I recall talk of short (quick decaying delays and reverb in the mix as well). If someone could follow up and link that'd be great. Anyhow, I hope you've found hope &/or inspiration through the forum, I KNOW I HAVE. Take care, T-D |

Welcome again nothingviolet.
I agree with the others. Double up on the chorus. I always have at least two on at the same time. Right now the two are CE-2 and DC-2, but this topic is making me want to put all my choruses in one chain just to see how deep and watery they all sound together. |
