| So, I received mine today. The ONLY let down I've had is that it doesn't go as extreme on the ends with the bass and treble as my small stone did. Other that, it sounds better and is a lot more versatile. the one I picked up is in awesome condition. It's in mint condition(it looks like someone bought it, stuck it in a closet and never took it out). |

| Congrats! Nothing beats happiness with a pedal. I wish I had an "r". |

I'm right there with you williamh. I received mine last week. Same condition but no manual.
Haven't plugged it in yet. Most of my cables are still coiled up from last weekends jam. So I'll have to get off my lazy but and test it out this weekend.
I've heard alot of praise about this phaser and am going to A/B it to my PH-1. |

| Great stuff! Love mine, but it's a little battle weary. How about some pics, guys? |

Hi Guys I'm curious...
Has anyone been able to compare the PH-1r to the EHX Small Stone? in an A-B test, or any other way. Other than williamh, who mentions he might have had one.

| still have both. the ph-1r is a lot more versatile and sounds better overall. The ehx was just able to get a little bit more extreme on the ends(gets very full on the low side, and very thin on the top of the cycle) |

In a way I agree with william, but it really depends on what version of Small Stone you have...(and worse than that, even not all of the same version sound the same)...
I have the 1st (neon lettering), 2nd (orange lettering) and 3rd (black and red) edition Stones, all original ('76, '77 and '79). They are all nice, but the 1st edition is beautiful, much quieter and more transparent (while still having a fair bit of effect) and doesn't suck volume. The orange version is a little thicker sounding and has the volume drop, and the 3rd edition is thicker still, along the lines of a phase 90. The Ph-1r is a little thicker than the v1, but very quiet and has more versatility since you can alter the speed and depth separately. |

Hi 4evrnewB
I don't want to hijack the thread.
But how do I tell which Small Stone version I have? I think mine is one of the newest versions. I got it S/H just a few days, before Xmas last year.
It has a coppery background, under the white Small Stone Text. And it's very minty... PM me if it's a long explanation.

| should have clarified. I have the most recent nano small stone pedal. It's a pretty nice little thing, especially for the price. The volume drop issues were fixed in it, and it sounds pretty darn good for what it is. |

Here are pix of all three original versions. Re-issues look like v3, but have LED's. Nano's are flat boxes.

| Dr Bob: I have a PH-1r and a Sovtek Small Stone. (I have a Ph-2 and a Ph-3, but that's by the bye). If anyone can recommend me a site suitable for hosting audio clips, you can have that comparison... |

Hi 4evrnewB
Mine is like the last one in your post. As I said the background Under the lettering, is more like polished copper, not red, it was a bit difficult to tell in your last pic.
Is there any other info on these, like circuit differences? Maybe even the different schematics? Internal pics of the various types.
Other than the obvious; What is the Volume drop all about I think I heard there was a fix for it?
Thanks for all your effort.
Regards Dr. Bob |

Is there anyone who has played both the PH-1 and PH-1r and can give a breakdown on how much change the resonance knob on the PH-1r gives? (i dug through the last 25 pages or so of the forum and the search page doesn't appear to be working)
I generally like my effects somewhat simple (my favorite pedals usually have fairly dialed in tone) and i'm trying to see if there's any significant advantage of going with the 1r vs. the 1.
