Yeah, I got my FZ-3 !!

And well, it's a great pedal ! Just a simpe, yet (or "therefore" ?) efficient, fuzz. I don't believe this one is not still done nowadays.

As usual in fuzz pedal, the knobs are "limited". The Tone pot is not too much trebly or bassy, which is the case in too much pedals (the OD-2 tone control for example, or the MT-2... or even the FZ-2). And Gain ("Fuzz") is acting as in my Fuzz Factory or my 60's Jen Fuzz.

It's not germanium though. But a fuzz is not only about germanium...

In short, great pedal ! It's been a long time since I have not be this happy with a new boss pedal in my collection. And I'm waiting for an SD-2...

some pedals have guitar AND bass inputs. such as the TU2 and the AW3. although i surely dont recomend the AW-3 for guitar. maybe its good on bass.

Just recieved my SD-2 (September 1993, first year of production).

And well, I'm impressed, it's a great pedal. Simple, efficient. Not as good as a killer tube amp, of course... but that's not the goal of a pedal.

37€. Great deal IMO. Not mint at all, but not beat up, just usual scratsches.

After a break spent collecting L serie Iabnez pedals, I think I'm in the mood for Boos pedals again !!

I'm waiting for a VT-1 and a MT-2.

I just received my MT-2. I love it - sounds awesome with a strat (single coils) Got mine for AU$100 with a Boss PSA-240 adapter. Both is "nearly mint" condition. Very versatile pedal.

My last few pedals were the LS-2 OMFG how bloody versatile, OC-3 which does a good job of emulating the previous version & adds a fair poly function, & finally the OD-3. I AB'd the BD-2 & OD-3 & found the BD-2 was just a bit noisier while the OD-3 had less crunch & a more mellow sound which is just what I was after. So, the BD-2 went back onto the shelf..

Pickedup another pH-1r. an OC-3 for $39 MIB.

'twas a good week!

The OC-3 sucked, garbled the notes as the guitar sustained in OC-2 mode. Got my money back.

The PH-1r is indescribably lush, swirly, swooshy. Can't believe this sound didn't migrate to the PH-2 and was only remotely digitally revived in the PH-3. This is one glorious pedal.

The faulty SD-1 MIT S/N BA66390 BLACK label $18.18 Aus.
BA66390 was produced Sept. 1989, and is unit number 26390,
arrived yesterday it's beat up a bit & strange two-tone yellow.
Looks like it did 10 rounds in the back of a cement mixer.

It would power on & off, both with the battery & DC pwr
but there was no audio.

Close inspection showed that the Level Pot had come loose,
and had twisted against the metal case, shorting the hot
end of the lug on the pot to ground,
effectivly a dead short, like turning the level pot to off.

Well 30 seconds with a spanner, and the pot was back in its usual
resting place.

This had to be one of the quickest fixes to a pedal that I have
ever done, I almost feel guilty about buying it so cheap.
Just have to clean it up a bit, lots of gig dust & juice on it.

This was the first time I have played with a Boss SD-1.
Yes I like the sound a lot, even thu the little Pignose
amp I use on my test bench.

Another pedal for the collection......GAS.... Next...

And that is exactly why, it is sometimes worth a gamble to pickup a broken pedal!!! BUT MAN THAT WAS A SUPER EASY FIX!!!

Hi Starr36 & Guys

Yes, it was a SUPER EASY FIX, and as I said in a previous post,
"I feel very guilty about how easy it was"
But in the same instance, can you see the grin on my face

I would hate to guess as to how long this pedal was faulty & maybe even
intermitant, the Level pot was loose enough for it to rotate back to the
correct (not shorted) position, it you turned the level knob back to
the zero (start) position.

I have always taken the risk & purchased all types faulty equipment.

I have to admit & give credit to my father for this, he would always purchase faulty & dead bits of electronics, then would say to me,
"I just bought this great (Insert name of electronic item here), and can you fix it?

Well can you imagine how much stuff I have fixed for him over the years, dad is now in his early 70's, & he still finds things for me to repair.
I guess in some stange way, it was his way, of nurturing & developing my electronic skills, wether he knew it or not?
Before he retired he was an Old World Backsmith & Boilermaker Welder.

You would never believe some of the stuff he has bought or found over the years, for me to repair.

I retrospect, I guess he did know what he was doing, as he is doing the same for my youngest son, who is also perusing a career in electronics.
Aren't fathers great!

I also have some reeeeally good deals for broken stuff. People often don't realise things can be fixed. And when, at the same time, they don't realise the value of the old stuff they own...

I particularely like the 20€ vintage MXR Blue Box. Just some moisture on the jacks, avoiding contact between male and female jack tip. But to be honest, after that, I had to redo almost all the wire solders, or they would have fallen appart in the next days.

I also love this Clone Theory :
http://basstyra.free.fr/atelier/pages/clonetheory/clonetheory.html

The man on eBay did clearly miss something. The picture on the auction was ugly (it's the first of the page), but in fact the pedal is almost like new (for a 30 year old EHX pedal, it's a miracle). See the other pics...

Plus, he said in the auction that "parts were missing" inside. So I guess it's why I didn't payed it much. Ugly pic + "missing parts"...

But in fact, nothing was missing. Just the switch, but as it can be seen on the pic. I payed 23€ including shipping from germany (I'm french), which is a pity for a vintage EHX pedal, and I just had to install a new switch and to resolder some wires. Plus changing a pot. A less than 5€ repair.

The Jen Fuzz you can see in my pages (sorry, they're only in french so far. But go for the pics... => http://basstyra.free.fr/atelier/main.html ) is also pretty amazing :

Someone told me he had a business to do with me (he had an old pedal to get repaired). And offered to pay me with some electronics parts he had around, including some Ge transistors, a MN3205 (25€ BBD...), and "a Jen Fuzz Box". I accepted. Then, he relooked at all this, and told me "some parts are still in the box". Well...

Once it arrived home, I saw that "some" included almost all the parts, and particularely the 2 Ge transistors, SFT 337 and SFT 363. This fuzz is just all about those 2 transistors, and they just can't be found anywhere (you can find AC128 pretty easily, but I never ever found a SFT 337 or 363). And by chance, a friend of mine has excactly the same pedal. So I put it together easily.

So I got this original Jen Fuzz (it's a Tone Bender, the only difference is the name printed on it) for nothing. And I'm sure some would pay hundreds for this... An original Ge fuzz from the golden era of the 60's.

I think these 3 are so far my best stories. But I have, well, dozens of smaller ones, some 10, 20, 50 box saved just because of a loose jack, a broken wire, a dead led... and I'm sure some better will pop up someday. I'm only 22 and I've been in the elec/music business for only 2 years.

Hi Basstyra
I had a look at you web site, you have some really nice stuff.
It's a real pity that French is not one of the languages that I can speak or read.

Still I was able to pick up a few words here & there.
I will go have another look, when I get some more evening time to myself.

As all us married guys know "I have to go do some "MAN" stuff around our new home.

Yeah, I know I should translate all this, but it's only a website I handle myself, and it allready takes times...

Let's say I'll plan a translation of the whole stuff when Bossarea update his pages !!
