Told myself, I wouldn't buy a new GE-7 pedal, used only. So, at lunch I went to the local guitar store to see if they had any used GE-7's. They didn't.
Well... Needless to say.
I folded like sex starved drunken sailor at a whore convention. |

Haha, if I had a penny for every time...
Congrats on your GE-7. It's a very useful pedal. |

Hmmmmm... My first impression of this pedal is not all that impressive. Makes my amp sound thrashed out. I will have to play with the bands on it a bit more I suspect. Right now it's set to a smile, with the level set at 0.

.... you don't know what your missing..... ....nah never been to one either..the closest i came was about 15 years ago i played some gigs in a hotel in dublin beside a notorious red light area where the lobby was a very busy place..... ..our bass player was talking to a certain young lady after a gig leaning against a stool with his hands in the pockets of a pair of fairly tight fitting jeans,he was pissed and from a more rural part of the country so he wasn't aware what the young lady did for a living..he kept winking at us and nodding his head towards the girl as if to say "i'm in".... our drummer snuck over when he was deep in conversation and kicked the stool from underneath him...he fell on the floor and couldn't get up because his hands were wedged inside his pockets, the bird just looked at him and walked off....... we fell around the place laughing and it took us an hour and a few beers to convince him that she was a brazzer...... |

Hi RickBlacker Apologies for the late reply. I read your message a bit earlier, but it's Friday night here, & I had to go out, & do my bit for the musicians of this world.
No Wonder your not too impressed. You have set the GE-7 to what is called a "Deep-V" And Scooped the out of all your mids, while super boosting the Low Bass & High Treble frequencies.
This is what the Metal guys, typically believe they need to do, to archive the ultimate in Death Metal tones.
Were you trying to set it for Scooped Mids aka Death Metal?
Or were you trying to get it to sound, more like slightly boosted mids? For when you do a solo.
Assuming a mid boost for solo's. Set the controls to look like a very shallow "SAD face". (inverted smile) A very gentle curve. I took this very quick pic You can move this shape up and down the scale. But remember, it's better to be subtle - less is more.
Regards Dr. Bob

I agree with Bob, the GE-7 makes a great solo booster when bumping the mids like that. Slash has used one on stage for years just like that, only in his amps effects loop. Since that works with a higher signal level, the outcome will be a lot louder.
I have the bass version, the GE-7b and it's also a great tool to make crappy sounding amps come to live, this should work just as well for any instrument. |

hi all...
I don't really want to sound death metal ish. More 80's style. George Lynch (Dokken era), EVH (DLR era), RATT, Def Leppard. Having said that, I really do like a nice deep rich chugga chugga.
Yes, I'm an 80's child. Graduated in 85.
It wasn't so much that it sounded metal, rather it simply sounded like my amp was clipping HORRIBLY. Having said that, I really didn't go play around much with the pedal. I'm going to play around with it some more over the weekend and see if I can figure out what was going on.
The setup was
Guitar -> Chorus -> EQ -> Amp clean channel.
Any suggestion on this chain would be very welcome. Also I have two other pedals that I was not using at the time
DS-1 RC-2 loop station.
Loop station seems like it could go before the amp or in the effects loop, anywhere depending on what I was wanting to record... Yes? Or is there a designated spot that those typically go?

| Rick, put the DS-1 in there and then tinker with the EQ...usually loopers go at the end of the chain, sometimes it's fun to put them in the front and then tweak knobs and hear the sound shift in real time but it's prob. not the most practical thing to do with it... |

Putting the DS-1 in front of the GE-7 in the setting Dr Bob suggested should get you off to a good start,i think george used a DS-1 back in the 80's...putting it straight into a clean channel on an amp in a 'Frown' will give you that Eric Clapton midboosted sort of sound....what sort of amp are you using....?..... |

Hi all... I don't think I mentioned this but last night I wasn't using my DS-1. I was using my amps gain and distortion.
I have a Peavey ValveKing 100W half stack. By itself it sound great. I hate to say this but the EQ in my Line6 PODx3 sounds good.
I think I just have some more experimenting to do. I didn't get a chance to really hear it at a decent volume. Plus there was a lot going on and I couldn't REALLY focus all that closely. |
