Hi guys,

I've been pondering about getting a Distortion/Overdrive pedal for a while now, due to the fact the dirty channel on my amp has so much white noise compared to my clean channel; additionally, so I can switch between fuzz/clean/distortion quickly when needed (my amp footswitch isn't close to my FZ-2 ).

I'd like to know your recommendations for which to get. I play metal/metalcore/hard stuff.

Any help/advice would be majorly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Well the OS-2 is extremely versatile but can't do metal as well as the MT-2 or ML-2.

The MT-2 is good for its parametric EQ for midrange frequencies & I can quickly & easily sculpt in a sound which I like.

The ML-2 has in many people's opinion, supplanted the MT-2. We have both in my house & I prefer the MT-2 for each EQ but the ML-2 is very good sounding & a bit more applicable toward metal IMFO.

Thanks for the reply DeFrag!

Do you know of any decent sites that have sound clips of these kind of pedals? I checked out the demo on Boss' site, I'm curious to know if there's any others.

Try the Maxon or Ibanez SD-9 (Sonic Distortion) for an Overdrive with a little more fur. I've got both the Ibanez version and an analogman-modded Maxon. If it works with your guitar and amp, you might really like it. It's been described as a tubescreamer with more "hair".

I have an FZ-2 also and there are some good tones in there.

I checked out some demos and pricing on the SD-9s and for what they're going for, it's not for me. I'm looking to spend <$100 as it's just going to be a part-time-use addition to my board.

Also, I have a FZ-2 as well and love it, but as you know, it only works well for power chords. High notes sound like crap XD

I know I keep banging on about it (without apology ) but I really like the MT-2 with the mids sorted out and MOSFET clippers...

The pedal will be a "sometimes" one, so hopefully I can get away with just that and my CS-2 for a decent standby dirty sound.

If you don't like the ML-2 you may wanna look around for an XT-2 Xtortion pedal. Very thick distortion tones come from this one. They only made 'em for a few years back in the 90s so you'd more than likely have to scour the used market for one.

I bought an XT-2 in 2004 and traded it to a friend in 2007. I used it for a little while after I got it but ended up not really liking the tone, thus why I got rid of it.
