THe RC-2 is great for one shots, think of the LIVE recording of "bullet the blue sky" U2/Rattle and Hum, where during the chorus, there is a chiming Em chord at the 7th fret ringing on every bar, while edge is doing a funky rhythm chunk (no doubt this was sequenced back in 1987) however, that is a great use of the RC-2's "one shot" mode OR repeat mode, just using that one chiming chord, which is heavy laden with reverb.
THe RC-2 has a tricky thing with the loop function and recording start/stop timing i.e. if you don't count the beats right from when you engage the pedal, the auto-quantizer DECIDES the bars, not you, so you need to practice that a bit if you are inexperienced/not trained in this area ESPECIALLY for live looping.
If you pre-record set phrases and have a means to follow the LED tempo light acurately with your eyes rather than your ears, you can have up to 11 phrases ready to go.
Because its complicated to change settings in the dark, I would recommend setting it up the night before the gig, so all you need to do is switch the phrase number. Use it SPARINGLY for guitar doubling, but use it way cool, like with a whammy, or something very distinctive, but UNCOMPLICATED!
search youtube for RC-2 creativity to get your creative juices flowing!
hope this helps.

I use a RC-20. It is set up off a loop on a LS-2. At the end of the chain. Also a friend of mine uses one all the time. He plays acoustic live, and is a solo act. He lays a rhythm down then solos over it all the time. Works well. |

So there is an issue with start/stop for recording loops? |

| Not to sound completely stupid... but looking at the features between the RC-2 and 20XL is the only features that differ - left pedal allows you to switch pre-recorded loops, undo/redo and what else? Is it worth it to buy the 20XL vs the 2? |

The larger physical size allows MUCH easier access to the controls. I have both and the RC-2 never sees the light of day. |

I use pre-recorded loops/one shots Live
The loop/record/play over your own chord changes I use at home for writing and practice purposes
