A friend gave me a stack of gear, including the following Boss stuff:
- an SE-50 multieffect processor
- a GE-21 graphic equalizer
Do you know where I can download/find manuals for these?
And what do you think of them?
Thanks

Gave?! I'm buying this stuff.

The download links are here:

http://www.rolandus.com/mojo/manuals.aspx

You have to give them an e-mail address & they send you an e-mail with a link.

Grace and peace,

Steve

I bought an SE-50 a while ago and I'm a bit dissappointed. I thought it was targeted at the guitar playing audience but it isn't so I misunderstood what the device was about. My mistake really. If I've gone to the site and downloaded the anual prior to purchase I could perhaps have avoided the mistake.
Phostenix recommended that I buy a ME-50 instead but I didn't listen.

Thanks for the information!
I have tried to subscribe to that web site, but it turns out that they want my phone number.
I have no problem giving an email address but I'm not giving my phone number away. I wonder what they need it for.
Is there any other site to download those manuals?

Yes, they ask for all sorts of stuff. I told them my phone number is (323)890 3700. If they check it out they will find that it's the phone number to Roland's California office.

They changed the site so they don't send you the link in an e-mail anymore. Now you just need to log in using your mail address and then you can download every manual you need.

Thanks for the advice
I now have another, much more technical question.
My new free (!) rack is made up as follows:
- a Rexer wireless receiver, hooked up to a:
- Marshall JMP-1 tube preamp, hooked via the effect send port to
- the SE-50 which is hooked downstream to
- the GE-21 which is hooked to the JMP-1 effect return port
- the JMP-1 output port is hooked to a Yamaha A100 power amp which in turn is connected to a
- Mesa/Boogie cabinet.
Here is the problem: if I hook my guitar directly to the INPUT port of the JMP-1, all is OK, just a little bit of hiss noise; if I use the wireless receiver, a fairly loud humming/buzzing noise can be heard.
I have done several trials and I have isolated the problem: the noise comes from the two Boss units. If I disconnect them (killing the effect loop) the humming disappears. And this humming is only present when I use the wireless stuff. The Boss units are probably poorly isolated, and the Rexer is catching up some hum. How do I go about solving this issue?

How can you say I'm lucky, with all that humming noise in the background?

(I'm joking) ;P

Have you tried to disconnect either the SE-50 or the GE-21? Just wondering if the noise comes from one of them or from both? What if you connect the units to the input of the JMP instead? Are they still making the same amount of noise?

They seem to be both producing the hum, approx 50% each.
I will try to connect them as you suggested.

Another problem has surfaced. In facts, the hum problem will have to wait.
The internal battery of the SE-50, which keeps the user programs in memory when the unit is powered off, does no longer hold the charge and, as a result, the data get corrupted every time I turn the effect off.
I have tried to open the unit, but I can't easily locate the battery without totally disassembling the unit, which I'm reluctant to do.
The user manual I downloaded just says this about the battery: "replace every 3 years - contact authorized service personnel".
Does any of you know what type of battery is that and how it can be reached and removed?

The battery is a CR2032 3V Lithium battery. I haven't changed mine. The reason I know is that the previous owner of mine changed the battery and left the battery wrapper in the box.

I'm afraid you will need to pick the unit apart to change it. Two screws on each side and two at the back. I thing that should be enough to get into the unit.

Thanks, the info about the battery will be very useful.
It's the regular flat round battery you find on PCs, isn't it?
As for the unit disassembly, I already did what you say, and I discovered that the battery is not in sight. A logic board and an insulation foil must be removed to access the mainboard, and I feel afraid of doing it.

That really doesn't sound right. I decided to open mine to have a look. There's just the main board in there and a huge floating arrow pointing to the battery. I took a picture

What is that!?!

Where's the rest of it? Mine has the foil shield, too & where your cables from the front panel plug in to the main board I have a 2nd PCB plugged in there. I won't have time to take pix tonight, but mine is WAY different than that.

Grace and peace,

Steve
