| Has anyone tried out the new Vox Satchurator distortion pedal? I've heard it sounds and functions very much like a BOSS DS-1, which would make sense since Joe Satriani used a DS-1 for years. Just wondering how true that is. Thanks. |

| The reason I ask is I'm considering selling my MIJ DS-1, which is a long-dash once-upon-a-time silver screw made in 2/81...I love the pedal but it's going on 28 years, for crying out loud! The Satchurator offers the same awesome sound as my DS-1, plus a few extras, as well as being new and under warranty. Looks pretty cool, as well. I'm chewing on it. Any opinions and other suggestions are welcome. Thanks! |

| GAS is true! But it's not the only reason. As I said in my original post, my DS-1 is going on 28 years, and I'd like to have something new with a warranty. Finances dictate that I have to sell one to get the other. Plus, the Satchurator has some nice extra features, including a More button that adds more gain and a Pad switch that makes it play nicer with wahs, etc. That said, I probably won't do it. I haven't had a chance to try out a Satchurator but did view some demos on You Tube that compared it versus the DS-1. The DS-1 was modded like a Keeley, but I thought it sounded better than the Satchurator. Then I tried Joe Satriani's Satchurator settings on my DS-1 (Tone 9, Level 1, Gain 5), and it sounded so good. Really responsive to my guitar's volume knob, as well. The DS-1 is a keeper. Just wish I could shake the gas! |

Are those settings, as in o'clock, or are they in some other setting?
I recently got a MIT DS-1 that sounds fabulous , & totally different to my other DS-1's. It's like someone has modded it, but on quick inspection, it looks stock & untouched. It leaves the MIJ's in the dust.
Someone else recently mentioned having a similar experience, with a MIT DS-1 they had purchased. But I can't remember who?
And for all the Tech guys, & modders out there; As soon as time allows, I go over it component by component, value by value.
Regards Dr. Bob |

Hi Dr. Bob! Those settings are as in o'clock. I found it surprising that having the gain so high would work, but it really does, albeit with a little more noise. I roll my guitar volume back to about 7 or 8 out of 10 for rhythm, and then roll up to 10 for leads. I also read that Satch has different settings for DS-1s, depending on whether they're made in Japan or Taiwan. For Japan he sets it at Tone 10, Level 1, and Gain 5 (almost like his Satchurator) and for Taiwan he sets it Tone 9, Level 5, and Gain 2.
That's good to hear about your MIT DS-1. I look forward to reading about your results once you investigate it more. I'd like to have one of those myself for comparison with my MIJ. I've been trying to sell or trade a Wasabi A0-1 overdrive pedal locally and on Craigslist to get one, but no luck so far. Thanks for the reply! |

Hi misterdetail
Thanks for the info & reply. Next time Mr's Dr. Bob is out of the house, & maxing out my C-Card. I'll try out all those settings.
I'm especially interested to try them out on the MIT DS-1 that just seems to sound so good/different.
I have an old SS MIJ DS-1, as well, I'll try out once again,
Regards Dr. Bob 4711 - perfume?

| As with many, finances are tight and even $40 is a lot right now. The only way I can get anything new is to sell something old. As much as I love it I'm just a hobbyist so it definitely doesn't fall in the "need" category. I'm blessed to have the nice gear I already have. |

misterdetail - thanks for the settings.
I just tried them out (Tone 9, Level 1, Gain 5) on my ss DS-1 into a Marshall JVM with a PRS CU22 and it sounds very Satch like - I like it - a lot!! Can see me having more confidence in using the DS-1 live now |

Hey The_Doc - cool, I'm glad to hear it! You have some nice gear, too.
Speaking of confidence, I decided to make a video demo of me playing my DS-1 with these settings and post it on You Tube. Obviously, I'm begging for trouble and lots of insults, but why not? Here's the link if anyone wants to hear the DS-1 with my gear:
