We all know about the Holy Trinity. The SP-1 and SG-1 has been around since the late 70s but when in time did the SP-1 and SG-1 become Holy Grails?

And what about VB-2 which came on the market a few years later than the other two, and was made up to 1986. When did the VB-2 become a Holy Grail?

What is your opinion on this?

I have no answer on that but I suppose it has a lot to do with when people began collect Boss pedals. This is also of interest, about when did collecting in a serious manner begin?
I think the Boss book triggered a lot of us but for sure there was collecting before that. But for myself I wasnt aware of the rarer pedals before the Boss book, never seen them.

Yes, I agree that much has happened in the last few years as interest grew. Im sure it was much easier to find these puppies sitting on the shelves in musicstores back in the 80s. I cant remember seeing one though. I guess the VB-2 made it a Trinity quite recently.

It would be very interesting to know the number of produced units of SG-1 and SP-1, compared to GE-6 and PH-1 for example. Perhaps they are rarer today on the market because people are holding on to them...

When I started looking for Boss pedals around 2000 it was already very difficult to track down any rare pedals and if one could be found it was already priced very high. Not as bad as today but high enough to make it uninteresting for anyone not collecting.

I don't know when things started to take off but I expect that the launch of Ebay (when was that? 1995? 1996?) may have done a lot.

I think Ebay started in 2000 or 2001, surely not in 1995 as most people did not even have internet at that time, and internet was very different then.

Not really sure about this, but my guess is that the collecting took off when internet became more of a stronghold togehter with Ebay. If we want to put a date on it, let us say late 90s early 2000.

Just something about "our local musicshop" Spotted a DSD-3 there, and guess what the price was? 79,- How on earth do they dare??!!!. Guess the owner payed no more that about 20,- I am even surprised that he knows the Ebay value of those pedals. Just another sign that it gets harder to get rarer pedals for a reasonable price. Reasonable price would be about 25,- to 30,- and that is for All pedals, including SG-1, SP-1 and VB-2..........................

I started using Ebay in late 1997; check my profile, "ckingcking" (and check out what I'm currently battling for while you're there )...

My philosophy is that everything beneath 100 is cheap.. but that's Sweden.. Just bought a DC-3 and a DSD-2 for about 220$..

the problem with Ebay : everybody knows the same infos on the product, and everybody wants to sell and buy at the same price, so when a pedal is (over)valued 100$ for example, everybody wants to get 100$ from it, no less...

ya and that keeps prices up.. if someone gets lucky and sells his CE-2 for 200 bucks, the next guy comes along and expects to get the same amount cuz the last guys sold for that much. but what this new guy might not understand is that the first CE-2 was Silver Screw, mint shape and box included.

oh the wonderful world of collecting!
