This has been up here a couple of times, but this topic is always interesting. We also loose old favourites and get new ones, I have aound 30 different overdrives, and that says something about this issue. Like looking for the Holy Grail of overdrives.
At the moment I really like: Boss SD-2, Digitech Bad Monkey and Visual Sounds Route 66. The latter has a very nice compressor too, one of the best I ever heard. SD-2 in crunch mode is hard to beat as many of you know, a longtime favourite. Bad Monkey is one of the cheapest around and blows many 2-3 times more expensive off the "stage". It sounds like a really good Tube Screamer, but by using the tone controls you can have it to sound like an SD-2 or a nice clean boost.
So what are yours?? |

| After 2 months of having it, I'm still amazed at how good my SD-1 sounds. |

| Still liking my TS808 clone into my Big Muff clone, though have been wanting to experiement with different ODs as a boost (like I am using it now), so I will probably be getting a DOD 250 clone put together in the next few months. |

Totaly forgot my Marshall Guv'nor (1st edition).. I'll never leave home without it...
In the old days I also used a Marshall BluesBreaker (also 1st edition) and it sounded amazing into my Marshall JCM900 4102.. but haven't owned one for many years... I'll have to put that on my buying list
Cheers |

well i thought about it and for some reason with OD i think the simpler the better. to me its more of a shut up and play type effect. pedals like the SD-2 are awesome and extremely versatile, but in my opinion, nothing beats the simplicity of the OD-1. that and i love the way it works with my fender single coils. for me a close 2nd is the BD-2.
come to think of it, theres really no OD that i dislike. |

i had a lend of one of those marshall pedal when they came out first..i used it with a MXR microamp and i really liked the guv'nor because you had such great control over your sound..i kept meaning to buy one for myself and when i looked they had stopped making them.... but i'm really happy with my twin tube these days.... ....
hey strato..... there might be no overdrive you dislike but what about your poor neighbours.... ...would you not take up collecting more modulation or delay pedals instead...? ... |

im ashamed to admit that ive NEVER tried the OD-3. i love Overdrive too and i bet i would live it. its one of those pedals i can never seem to find for a great price probably because no one ever wants to sell theirs.
