Apologies, but the search function is not working and I looked through 15 pages of old threads before losing patience...
What's the general consensus on the best Boss fuzz pedal? I'm not keen on the idea of a digital modelling fuzz (i.e. the COSM-based FZ-5), so is the FZ-2 or FZ-3 the best bet? The description of the 3 modes on the FZ-2 is a little vague - Are they actually that useful, or would i be better off getting the simpler FZ-3? I play funk/soul/blues/rock/jazz/psych type stuff (Hendrix, Isley bros, Funkadelic, Cymande, Meters etc) and have three overdrives for tube amp-style crunch - I'm looking for a slightly kitschy late '60s sort of lead sound.
Many thanks in anticipation of your collective expertise... |

Hi there! I have both the FZ-2 and FZ-3. The FZ-2 gives you two very modern fuzz sounds and can also be used as a clean gain boost (which is a very odd feature on this kind of pedal, I think).
The FZ-3 is a straight-up classic fuzz that is not as much in your face as the FZ-2.
I, personally, like the FZ-2 better, because it is very unique sounding, whereas, if you want to have a standard fuzz in the form of a Boss compact, the FZ-3 would be the way to go IMHO.
I have no experience with the FZ-5, but I recall the reviews by members on this forum having been mixed at best.
By the way, I am actually thinking of letting my FZ-3 (incl. manual and box) go, since I have hardly been using it at all in the last couple of years. If you are interested, please give me a shout.
Cheers! |

Yeah, i am quite interested - You don't appear to have the email icon at the top of your post, though: Can you email me with the price you want for it? |

FZ-2 I have over the last years bought and tested a number of fuzz pedals and I have to say the Boss ones are not the best out there. Not the worst either of course. A good fuzz, in my opinion, should sound good both at low gain settings and high gain. At low gain settings I think fuzzes makes the ideal overdrive, very good tone. But the Boss ones lacks this possibility I think. But for really freaky fuzzing tone the Bosses are great!

Which (non Boss) fuzz units have you been most impressed by? |

Hi guys, Im a new FZ-2 owner from last week, did anybody have a notice if brings down your sound, when it is off?, I know that boss pedals are not true bypass, but this little monster bring downs the direct sound of the guitar more detectable for my taste, and when it is used in the booster mode the gain control control not quit the sound when putted in 0 level. Is break?
Thanks and Boss pedals |
