Hi there.... I just recently bought a used CS-3 Compression Sustain pedal..... For the life of me I can not hear a difference no matter what the settings are when I turn the "Attack" knob clockwise or counter clockwise. It is made in Taiwan if that makes a difference. Not to sound completely ignorant but in addition to telling me if the pedal is defective based on that, what kind of sound will this pedal help me produce and what is it's purpace in general, what types of pedals can it be combined with and what sounds will they produce....I really appreciate any input you may have....I'm new here and I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask this in...so please forgive me if it is not....Thanks!
Check this out for a description of what compression does. It's not so much an effect in the way most other effects sound. You'll see what I mean when you read the link.
The attack knob is really a threshold knob meaning that if you set it higher the compressor will kick in according to how hard you hit your strings. Low attack = instantainious compression, High attack = hit string harder for compression to kick in.
