ooooh, it's been a long time since i visited...
i have a minor problem with my CE-3
it's very sensitive on the input-level... if set to high the unit produces some digital distortion which is very unpleasant...
i wuld like to know if anybody else has had this problem... and if so, with which choruspedal?
i really like my CE-3 and would like to know if there is a way to increase the headroom of this pedal... a mod or so.. |

Welcome back... it's strange that you describe it as 'digital distortion' because as far as i know the CE-3 is fully analog..?? clapton used one for a long time and his guitars are active and he is fairly fussy about his tone..i have a strat that i converted to clapton specs and the preamp is very powerful and i use a mid 90'S CH-1 and never had any problems except with boss compressors or dist/drives etc... Dr Bob pointed out something on a different post that might be of help to you...some of the older boss pedals have a lower impedance than the newer ones,so if your using a guitar with active or very powerful pickps this might be your problem..... just a guess..... |

Did someone touch the trimpots in your CE-3? The pedal shouldn't produce any distortion but one of the trimpots adjusts the BBD bias to allow for minimum distortion. If someone has tampered with it, I suspect it could produce some sort of digital distortion. |

| How are you powering it? Maybe it's an adaptor issue? I never had any problems like that with either of the CE-3's I had. |

i'm powering it with an ac adapter and a daisy chain...
i don't know if anybody has touched the trimpots in it...
it might not be digital distortion, but it sounds similar, it's an internal distortion thats for sure...
i cant put it in my effectsloop because of the sensitivity of the input...

Hi nilo
Have you tried it on its own, using a known good 9V battery? Does it still have the same problem?
Regards Dr. Bob |

As Bossare has written before adjustment of the trimpot also can be the reason of the distortion.
Please check the schematic here: http://www.synthdiy.com/show/file/?id=2058
The slider of the VR3 trim (left side of the drawing) should adjusted to the half voltage of the supplied battery voltage. Normally it should be on 4.5V while battery has 9V. If you have any multimeter advised to measure it!
cheers |

i tried it yesterday, and the problem got better, but it didn't dissapear totally...
if it distorts it seems i need to adjust the trimpot for higher voltage, right? |

adjust to half supplied voltage! needs to be measured at first that the curent one is too low or too high. |
