The klon centaur was uncovered some 2 years ago already completely, casusing quite a large stir on ethics discussion. I'ts OK to copy a Boss (where Roland must spend millions on R&D on a yearly basis) but it's forbidden to look at a boohteek pedal.
All details can be found here, including schematics, DIY board layouts. http://freestompboxes.org/viewforum.php?f=14
Thanks Dirk, I almost purchased one of these, but lost out to a higher bid. I had bid $855 and lost! Now I see them at or over $1000. I find that hard to justify for an overdrive, but if ya add up what I paid for my Tim, LDO, and 05 E burst. Well all is relative! My favorite OD is still my '79 Ibanez TS-808 narrow box. Havn't played anything that can dethrone it! Ah...G.A.S.!!! |

You were OUTBID with $855.00??? Does this pedal have GOLD for it's circuit paths? I can't believe it. But then again there is that gplayer298 floating around the 'bay... A person that has more money than he knows what to do with... |

That's nothing Merv, I've seen 2 Clay Jones OD's(CJOD) go fir $1250 and $1500. They are in the same Hammond box that Landgraff uses and I think Clay only made 500. But that is the highest price I've seen for a pedal that is hardly vintage. Hey, us guitar players are nuts!...Well some of us! P.S. most are just TS copies with out the buffer. |

Hmmmm... sounds like a pedal is starting to take shape. A "Merv's Mods" original... I'll only make 10! Point to point wiring, no PCB, carbon comp resistors, yeah........ Gotta have the "true bypass", or some of the "purists" will snub their noses at it. Make it for about 30 bucks, sell it for about 300.... |

there's a klon in a store of used pedals here in mexico for 800 dlls, then its a bargain..i should buy one....OK, no...i know its the holy grail and everything....
but i'm on the waiting list for a TIM and i can bet a lot on it that it will sound as good (or better to my taste) with more tone options and at 8x less the price..so...
not quite sure why is it worth that much... |

Find out for yourself the only difference between most of these pedals is $100 or $200, depending on how boo-teek you go. I ain't saying the Bad Monkey will replace whatever is your board right now, but it isn't that bad, and most OD's here sound decent and usable. It's like prefering redheads to blonds to me. Use what you like, and who cares if everyone laughs at you. Hey, here's a can of worms to open. To me, if you have to goop over a circuit, that's saying there's SFA original or clever about it (you can't patent it), so the only way to prevent the world from knowing how simple your circuit is forces you to cover it in a pound of poo. |

Well said my man !!!
This past week i spent some time doing some demos for a few of my friends that work at the local music store were i shop , with a modded Boss SD1 of mine . I went head to head against some big named pedals etc etc , the one that surprised alot of them was a new MI AUDIO Tube Zone , it was too close to call , there was no " better " pedal IMO ....just different ! so in short , us guys who have learned to mod pedals etc , can mod a standard Boss to hang some of the best in the business imo ...Paying those kinds of prices for a tube screamer clone is just mad !!
I love the look on there faces when i fired up my " sleeper" Boss !!!LOL !!

I've heard the Klon is more of a booster than an overdrive...Jeff Beck used one for a while as do the guys in aerosmith...don't think any booster pedal is worth a grand .... .... |

Gearmandude did a utube on the Klon ...it sounded like it was adding gain as well IMO . It would be interesting to hear this pedal in action just to see if its really that good . Who knows .... |
