I know that all of us has been looking for one or two Boss pedals a long time without finding them, or missing it for some reason. And keep on searching but with little result.
Those Ive been searching for a long time are TW-1 and PH-1R, never seems to find them.
TW-1 hurts as it is not a very rare pedal.

I eventually did track them all down but I had the same problem. The PH-1 and SD-2 kept slipping under my radar over and over.
The PH-1 was the biggest problem. I bought one that disappeared in the mail and missed out on several others because I didn't pay attention when the Ebay auctions ended.

I have a solution to all of this: Do not search, do not set yourself a target of getting a certain pedal, and just buy [or look] for anything you like, what you will find is that in no time you really do get all of them.

I found a lot of the rare ones, just sitting in front of me. Did not go for the Slow Gear and I did not go for this too:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=014&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=330055130958&rd=1&rd=1

Did bid one time on a VB 2, it went very high, thought it was silly, two weeks later another came along, this time it was boxed and I did bid and did get it.

Overal I can see the point of getting frustrated when you are waiting for certain pedals to turn up and you do not really see them, but it may be more fun to just browse and look elsewhere. I also have gone into other pedals and by doing so I discover great things.

Last night I discovered that the DOD FX90 delay does have the same chip as the DM2 first version, I do have the DM2 third version, and yes the DOD sounds somewhat warmer, but the DM2 does have a longer delay time. Another thing: I only did get the DM2 yesterday whereas the DOD I have had for about a year, but for some reason I never felt I could get a good delay sound from it. I did tweak the trimpots, to get the occilation thing going, but then when I heard the DM2 I was so blown away by its sound and could see why people think it is such a great pedal. From there I went back to the DOD thinking that it should be able to do the same thing as the DM2. Went back again to tweaking the trims and it did take me a long long time, to get rid of the whistiling tone and to get it to repeat a lot longer than what it orginally did. Managed to do it in the end, and it sounds ever so sweet. Almost like the DM2, perhaps a little warmer because of its different chip.

Now all of this stuff, I just discover through the collecting thing and the reading on the forum, and just having an open mind to things and experimenting. It really is a ball and I feel there are no real bad pedals out there.

Rare pedals, do they exhist? Well I think most of the Boss pedals are fairly common, but yes, there are moments when you bid for something, you get it, and a few days later you see the same pedal, but this time boxed and with a manual, now what does that tell you?? You really can find the stuff, but you may have to wait, or just go for whatever you like [and find at the time], and really, are there any pedals out there you would not like to try?? Think of the whole Ibanez range the TS808 series, the 9 series, the master series, they are fun to play through, but yep, may take some time to get 'em all.

ya i agree with that. my number one rule is dont go stupidly high. there will be another one. plus im not afraid to get doubles, triples, quads, and in the DS-1 case, quints of a pedal if i can find a them for a good enough price. these are good for trading.

I have been looking for well over two years for the PQ-4 I wanted and never could get one. Till last week I scored a mint in box one for less than $90 shipped! The search for the final 27 I need continues

Visserman: wise words above very wise! I think in the same directions now and then, but to read it feels fine!
For myself I dont go the E-bay route, at least yet Too much hassle and the postage is probably high. So I just use Scandinavia as a source, it has worked fine and I have found all of the really rare pedals at a price most of the times quite below E-bay prices.
But someday I have to go to E-bay, I know that.

Goran,

Before I knew of Ebay I used to buy from shops. The prices they charge for older pedals is high. Apart from the high price they do not have a lot of choise. Logical as most people looking for this go the Ebay route or buy on some vintage sites on the net.

I have noticed that some of the shops around here buy their stock off Ebay!! Great, so it may be better for us to buy from the same source instead of buying from them for a price twice as much.

Checking Ebay daily will teach you a lot about the fluctuations in prices, this can help you with your own bidding and the choices you make, but then, you can still make "mistakes"

Like Strat I also buy a lot of doubles, well that is pedals which are supposed to do the same thing but may be of a different brand. I know Strat meant something else, but heh................

Last night I played through some of my choruspedals just to see how different some of them are in character. Some do have their own character while others are copies of certain well-known designs.

Usually when I am in this "mode of playing" I tend to play the same idea and just change the pedals just to find out which ones really sound great.

Find it inspiring to play through different pedals from time to time, and change the signal chain as well and really it does make you a better player in terms of understanding what makes a great inspiring sound.

Well, I said I didnt use E-bay BUT I use local Scandinavian E-bay type net sources a lot of course.
But I have made lots of great buys in shops, like an SG-1 and an SP-1 for about $60-70 each. And this was just about 2 years back.
Musical shops here more and more begin to know the real value of vintage Boss, but not all.

Yes, in the early days of Ebay pedals were probaly a bit cheapter but as time goes on, some of them go up in price while others may come down.

Local shops not knowing about the value of certain pedals: Yes that is a fun thing, but probably getting rarer and rarer as well as most people will google their pedals to see what they are worth and to find out what people will say about them. Imagine dealers looking at this forum and the kind of stuff which goes on here. No I do not think they will stick around for a long time but then it probably does not take to long to see which of the pedals are fairly expensive. Just thinking of the homepage with its refrence of the DM2 and its collectorvalue and the HR2 with its orginal USdollarprice ticket.

yeah I agree, I think bargains are getting harder to find but they are out there still if people are patient.

Just the waiting is a killer!
