Hi Guys,
I've had a major paroblem happen to my RC-20XL this evening. I was playing and suddenly the pedal shut down and restarted. When it restarted the "one shot phase" light is constantly flashing and so to is the "tap tempo" light. The sound coming from the pedal is heavily distorted and almost indistinguishable.
I have tried pressing every button imagineable, pulling the power altogether and leaving it for long periods of time - no luck.
I think the cause of the problem is that one of my free daisy chain connectors (which was live) touched the outer casing of the pedal which caused it to shut down. I am thinking that some circuitry may have been fried.
Does anyone have any solutions to the problem? Is there a reset button located anywhere to try and get the pedal back to factory settings?
Any help is greatly appreciated, I use this pedal every day without fail and had to save long and hard to get it, I am extremely angry and upset at the moment!
Obviously the 5 year warranty is out the window as I am outside the US (Ireland).
Thanking you in advance,
Liam |

Hi irish_bhoy
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
I don't own an RC-20XL, so I'm not sure if there is a master reset. There are a few other members here hat do have them. If you can wait until they log in & comment.
If you can't resolve the issue I would try the 5 Year warranty route.
Just a thought: Have you checked that the Power supply was not damaged & is giving out a lower voltage, locking up the unit?
Regards Dr. Bob

Hi Dr Bob,
Yeah have checked the power supply it is working properly. I will wait for other members of the forum to get back to me who have an RC-20XL.
Was just wondering if anyone knew what I can do regarding the 5 year warranty. I bought the pedal in the US but live in the UK, is there anything that can be done.
Thanks |

Hi irish_bhoy and welcome!
Wish there was some history with failoures of these (it would point us in the right direction), but I don't think we've ever had anyone with one fail in here.
The next thing would to dismantle it and send us some high-res pics of the main board. |

Sorry only getting back to you guys, been away from home for a while.
Here is a photo of the inside circuitry - seems fine to me.

Anyone have any other ideas?
Im awaiting a reply from Boss regarding the validity of my warranty.
Does any one know from the forum - if I bought the pedal in the US and the warranty is well within the 5 year deadline, can I send it to the US for repairs if I currently live in the UK? |

The Roland web site says:
"Roland Corporation U.S. warrants to the first consumer only of a covered product purchased from an authorized Roland dealer in the U.S. that this product will be free from defects in materials and/or workmanship from the date of purchase until the period of time indicated for this product on the chart accompanying this Limited Warranty...
To exercise your rights under this Warranty as a purchaser, you must ship this product in appropriate packaging at your expense (insurance is recommended), together with proof of purchase, to Roland Corporation U.S...."
Doesn't mention anywhere that you must reside in the USA... I think you are OK. |

The saga continues...........
I contacted Roland Ireland and they informed me that because the pedal was purchased in the US they would only be able to repair the pedal if they got authorization from Boss US via email.
So with the Irish repair guys email address I phoned L.A. and spoke to Boss US and the various departments (very helpful btw)
In the upshot the Boss Ireland guy was wrong and the only way to get the pedal repaired is to send it off to L.A.
The problem is I bought the pedal on ebay. I informed the guy that I bought the pedal brand new from a shop on ebay (who has 8000+ feedback) and asked if a Paypal receipt would be sufficient. He said no and in addition to this warranties are only valid from pedals bought from official Roland Dealers.
So I have emailed the shop I bought it from to get a proper receipt and to find out if they were official Roland dealers (waiting for reply).
Sorry for rambling here, but what I am getting down to is - Has anyone on the board bought a Boss product from a shop via ebay and successfully had their product repaired from Roland?
or...
Has anyone had a pedal repaired knowing that the shop they bought it from wasn't actually a Roland dealer, I mean do you think Roland actually check these things when they have the broken pedal in front of them and a receipt from a shop?
Thanks again and sorry for the essay
