| I've been doing a lot of recording lately and I've found the LM-2 very effective for the bass tracks. |

Hi there! Here is an update of the pedals I own. Since my last post in this thread I purchased the following equipment:
#8226; RT-20 Rotary Ensemble: This is an absolutely magnificent Leslie and Univibe simulator. Everybody should have one! It is that good!
#8226; FS-5L: Well, I needed one for the SD-2, so there you go#8230;; this one is made in Japan. Is there any difference between these, the ones made Taiwan and those made in China?
#8226; FS-5U: Same as above, but in this case for the DD-5 (and a RC-2 in the future???).
#8226; BCB-30: The BCB-60#8217;s little brother: Very handy for jam sessions and such!
#8226; DS-1 Distortion: Well, I do not really want a stock DS-1, but the Stinkfoot mod sounds very promising, so I got one. Incidentally, it is a mint early Taiwanese version with a black label.
#8226; TU-2 Chromatic Tuner: I tried the TU-15, but for stage use, the TU-2 is without (Boss) equal.
#8226; RV-5 Digital Reverb: I have a RV-2 and I am really happy with it. I got this as a bargain (75 Euros, I think). As was discussed here some time ago, it is much brighter than the RV-2, which is not an advantage to me, and the spring reverb is not at all convincing. I cannot test it in a stereo setting any time soon, so I am actually thinking about letting it go again. There is, however, a quite interesting use for it: If I hook up both reverb pedals after each other, I get a HUGE reverb sound, like I am in a cathedral. It is quite nice, but gets rather muddy, when I play chords in quick succession. Maybe some of you have discovered this, as well?
My old list: #8226; CS-2 #8226; BD-2 (Keeley Phat Mod) #8226; SD-1 (Stinkfoot Plus Mod)  #8226; SD-2 #8226; MT-2 (to be modded by Stinkfoot)  #8226; FZ-2 #8226; FZ-3 #8226; PQ-4 #8226; PH-1r #8226; BF-2 (MIJ, black knobs) #8226; CE-2 (MIJ, black label) #8226; RV-2 #8226; DM-2 #8226; DD-5 (to be modded by Stinkfoot)  #8226; BCB-60
Non-Boss pedals: #8226; Ibanez TS-9 Tubescreamer (original #8217;83 issue w/ JRC4558D chip) #8226; Ibanez SD-9 Sonic Distortion #8226; YU Brothers PH-300 Phasor #8226; Dunlop DB-01 Dimebag Signature Wah #8226; Dunlop GCB-95 Crybaby (to be modded by Stinkfoot)
By the way, I am still trying to find out, how to determine in what year my Crybabies were made. If anyone knows, where I can find any information regarding this question, I would really appreciate it.
I don#8217;t want to stock up with pedals I do not really need or that I am not completely happy with. Also, I am on a budget, so some had to go again#8230;
DS-2 (MIT), AW-2, HM-2 (MIJ), BD-2*, CH-1 (digital), CS-3 (MIT), SD-1*, OC-2 (Octaver version), BCB-6, PSM-5, XT-2, DC-3, MZ-2, NS-2, PW-2, TU-15;
*was modded later on.

I got my SG-1 !
It's boxed indeed. But more amazing, there is also the manual, though I understood it wouldn't be there.
It's a plastic screw model, september 1981. Very good condition.
The label is black, japan, use a coin. It seems re-glued, so it's probably from another pedal, don't you think ? |

Congrats to your SG-1, nice with box and manual. What did you have to pay? The label could certainly be original as early black screw pedals usually have this label. Remember that there are probably fewer black screw than silver screw SG-1īs. Well, how do you like it after testing?

Yes, I just had a look to the Bossarea label page, and the Use a coin label was still used in 1981. Why not. But the rubber itself seems re-glued, and the 4 screws of the backplate are not cross-shaped, but straight. So the whole thing seems not original.
I'll ask the seller, who assured me it was all original, if he has been the only owner.
Inside, it's the yellow transparent plastic insulation sheet. The hole for the battery clip wires is next to the screw, not to the switch.
And finally, a funny thing, if it's genuine : the upper part of the box has two half-circle holes at the bottom, allowing to remove it easier. I never saw such a thing, but I'm not sure I ever saw a 1981 box before either...
I payed 128, which is the best price I ever found on a SG-1.
After testing, it's exactly what it should be. It took me some minutes to understand you have to mute your guitar before plugging, if not the attack isn't well triggered. I just regret the Attack control is that fast. I would have prefered a really slow rising sound, but that's in fact not easy with an enveloppe follower, as the enveloppe of a guitar isn't really regular. |

Congrats on the SG-1 The screws are definitely not original but there's no reason to believe the bottom pate has been replaced. The rubber may have come off and needed to be glued back in place but the "coin" plates were commonly used up to serial 15xx00. Most 16xx00 pedals have the Made in Japan sticker covering "Roland Japan" on the label. What's the serial of your SG-1?
Haven't seen the half circle holes in the box you describe either. Got a pic?

The serial is 108700.
As you can see, it's in pretty good shape. Just a scratsh near the pot, and this strange line in the paint on the switch.

That was a very good price for a SG-1 with all papers!
When a rare pedal donīt have the original screws one thing to do is to buy a cheap pedal from around the same age, like NF-1, and substitute screws. It looks better, but if you sell the pedal later itīs nice if you inform the buyer. There are several types of screws used for bottom plates, subtle differences but they are there.

And I forgot to tell you, this is my 46th pedal, which makes me officially less than 50% away from the ultimate goal !
(in fact I got 51 pedals, but three OC-2, two CE-2, two NF-1 and two BF-2) |

Got a beat up, but working and boxed ss OD-1 this week. My 39th pedal so far
Is it me, or are the silver screw pedals a bit larger than the other ones? This OD-1, together with my ss GE-6, don't fit as neatly in a BCB-6 slot as the later plastic screw pedals.
edit: I just checked, and yes they are a couple of millimeters wider |

Just got my boxed (w/ manual) CS-2. Good condition, the paint is slightly damaged on the switch, but that's a detail. The pot are scratchy, but I'll clean them up.
It's a good compression pedal. The Attack control can really give a serious kick on a single note playing, and the Sustain control works as it should. The whole thing can easily boost an OD/distortion.
All in all, a good, simple compressor. And a bright/deep blue painting which I just love ! |
