i have a theory. i think that the mysterious mr m ( the boss book) has misled us re backing plates. because of confusing batch numbers, i think he assumed that 0000 were the first batch numbers, when in fact they were..6500? anyway, i reckon the first three or four 'types' of boss compact ( going up to...9000? ) pedals had the ' power dc 9v' backing plates. this means that the book is wrong. perhaps mr m stands for misleading. either that or my flu is twisting me up big time.

| The book is definitely misleading. The labels with Roland Japan printed at the bottom are, according to the book, the first labels used. This is wrong and they are instead used on pedals with serial numbers 15xx00-17xx00. The Roland Japan text is usually not seen as there's a Made In Japan sticker covering the text. |

My $5 says it's Jack. With a side bet of Bossarea.
It's from his SECRET Other Collection. No wonder the poor bugger has no girlfriend. |

It looks like a heavy metal guitar, red with floyd rose. It´s a picture of him on a CE-2 but I don´t know who it is. Maybe I don´t know even if I get his namne... Is he someone famous? |

I almost didn't click onto this thread, but felt that I should...
No, its not me...I don't have too many Boss pedals, maybe 8-10...crap, I can't remember
As far as the girlfriend issue, the ones I like, don't like me, the ones that like me, I don't like
However, does the red heavy metal guitar sort of look lie a Rhoads V? I have one of those at my parents house, and I have a BC Warlock with a reverse headstock up there too...in fact, that BC Rich Warlock had a coil tap for the bridge humbucker, and I think that guitar got me on my humbucker neck-single coil bridge addiction...and that configuration you can mainly find on Teles...Who would have thought that my BC Rich Warlock may have contributed to my Telecaster addiction I don't think Leo Fender and/or Bernie Rico would have expected anyone to say that |

| I am possibly incorrect, but I assumed "Mr. M " is Masaki Matsubara. |

An awful lot of research has been done informally on this site, but the evidence is solidly documented by photos, inside and out of owner's actual pedals (and a growing sample of pedals too) ... when you look at the serial number dater program ... and the reconciling of date codes on internal chips, the data gathered here is likely over time, creating a definitive source for aging and dating pedals and isolating manufacturing run changes ... even subtle things like the "Rolan Japan" label traced above to pedals coded 157 177 would never have been able to have been determined unless you were the production manager and kept detailed logs.
