Now using an OD-3 and MD-2. The MD-2 is not a heavy metal pedal at all. Good distortion with tele and tele with p90's. Love the OD-3, good fat overdrive. Way better than TS-7 and VS RT66.
I previously had a Zinky True Grit and Visual Sound Route66. Im uch prefer the OD-3 to both of those. The MD-2 is working great for high gain drive. I can't see why the MD-2 is called a Nu-Metal pedal. It doesn't scoop mids. Maybe with a humbucker guitar...dunno.
The MD-2 was released at the end of the nu-metal craze and I think Boss just wanted to get in with the favoured music at the time. It's the Boss pedal with the highest gain of all. The next two being the HM-3 and the MT-2.
The MD-2 works good for me. I have a Roland BluesCube 30 2x10 combo. It's got a DS-1 like lead channel and the normal channel can do the OD thing when cranked up pre-gain and master gain.
