Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone could explain in depth the warp mode on the DD-6. I've heard about it, but never had a real explanation of what it truly does. Should I get the DD-6 or the DD-7? Is the warp mode worth it?
Also, I have a question about overdrives. I'm thinking of getting the OS-2 but I'm afraid it'll be a "jack of all traits, master of none". Do you guys recommend it, or should I get separate overdrive and distortion pedals?
Thanks for all the help. |

First, welcome!
Secondly, I don't have experience with the DD-6 or DD-7 so I can't detail that for you either. Someone will chime in about that.
The reason I'm replying is I have an OS-2. The description "jack of all trades, master of none" is for the most part accurate IMO. It's a good pedal, I enjoy using it from time to time. I ordinarily use a Keeley-modded BD-2, but sometimes I think I want a little more than what it is giving me, so I pull out the OS-2, mess with it for awhile, then go back to the BD-2. Strange I know. I really like to run the OS-2's color knob at about 2 o'clock, giving me a little more distortion than overdrive in the blend. I prefer OD, but I don't really care for the OD alone on the OS-2. Whereas I enjoy the distortion tone on the pedal. Recommendation? It depends on what you plan to do with it, what styles you lean towards, etc. I do recommend it; if you don't already have an OD or DS pedal it's a great place to start. Even if you do already have an OD or a DS it's just different enough to merit attention. |

| It's difficult to explain what the warp mode sounds like. It creates a very strange sound that you would only use as an accent. More or less, the longer you hold down the pedal in warp mode the more delay is added to the sound where if you have the pedal held down for say, 5 or 10 seconds continuously the sound gets modified to the point where it is no longer recognizable (more or less just noise). I like the DD-6 but never use the warp mode other than just screwing around. I have not tried the DD-7. |

Welcome!
I haven't tried the warp mode on the DD-6 but it looks like a "toy" (not the pedal, just the warp mode).
I have a DD-7 that is very, very good. Can recommend it. |

Thanks for the responses everyone. I've decided to buy the DD-7 (its functionality as a short looper is an awesome bonus feature).
As for my overdrive/distortion problem, I think I'll just get a plain overdrive pedal. I don't really like hard distortion. Is the OD-3 or SD-1 smoother/warmer for overdrive? Any opinions? Thanks. |

I have a few different SD-1's and one OD-3. I like both pedals, but they are very different overdrives. I would get both and experiment. The SD-1 can be had pretty cheap on eBay (my last was about twenty shipped!), while the OD-3 usually goes for a little more but sounds very different.
It will really depend on your ears, your amp, and your guitar. You might find that stacking two OD's will complement each other in surprising and delicious ways! |

It's also on the DD20.
Sounds fine as an overdub, maybe.
Never found an actual use for it though... |

Seems like most of us use separate pedals for each function. In my rig I use either a heavily modded SD-1 or a stock Digitech Bad Monkey for overdrive, and a modded MT-2 for distortion. |

To me, the warp mode sounds like a randomly increasing self-oscillation and seems to only be good for random accents as noted by the other posters; its a cool effect, but will only be needed sparingly. I ditched my DD-6 for sounding too sterile. best thing is to try them both out at your local dealer |

| Thanks guys. I'm really surprised by all the useful, quick responses. What is everyone's opinions on the OD-2r? I can get one for about $60. Is it worth it? |

As a general collectable pedal, $60 for one in very good condition is an OK price - they do come up, but they aren't common. if it is beat to heck, then $40 is better.
The OD-2/R pedals are quite servicable OD pedals.
