Hi
I'm about to get rid of my old CE-2, but thought i'd look up the ID using your database, but it doesn't seem to be there.
The ID number is 040500 and is a type 2 sticker (underneath where the battery would go)
The bottom plate label however is a type 1 "use a coin"
Any any other information you would like from it before its gone?

Hi Jolem
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
Your right, I check your serial number & it does come up as "Unknown" I will have to leave you strange serial number problem for Bossarea.
Is it possible that one of the digits isn't a zero, perhaps it is another faded number.
Regards Dr. Bob

I know about this. When I first wrote the serial number decoder I didn't know that 6 digit serial numbers could start with 00, 01, 02, 03 or 04 so it will fail to look these up.
The serial number decoder works this way:
. . 0300 February 1981 0400 March 1981 0500 or 05xx00 - April 1981 06xx00 May 1981 07xx00 June 19811 . .
I'm not perfectly sure what is correct here. The serial numbers more likely went
0400 0500 00xx00 01xx00 02xx00 . .
but that means that I will have to move all ink samped pedals back 6 months. That means production must have started early 1977 and that's not compatible with Boss official version. If I move the production of 6 digit numbers forward we end up with 99xxxx being produced after March 1989 and we know that Boss started using the present codes then so that won't work.
I decided to base my decision on component codes instead but I will need a lot more observation before I can say anything for sure about those. If I look at the component codes of my pedals with 4 digit numbers starting with 0 I find that the components are produced on average 2-3 months before the production date given by the serial number decoder. If I do the same for my 6 digit pedals with serials between 08xx00 and 14xx00, I find the same result. I am therefore not sure where the missing serial numbers fit in.
Since most of the early 6 digit pedals I've seen have black thumb screws and most of the late 4 digit pedals have the silver coin screw, it is most likely that the 6 digit pedals are made later but I'm still not sure when. |

Hi and Thanks
Thanks for the serial number clarification.
I made a couple of pictures (I was writing this while BossArea was writing his)

Shows the serial number
But more interesting is that the metal case seems to have more holes in in than normal

This is probably the oldest Boss pedal I have, but its the only one with holes like this! It doesn't look like its been modded. |

Why do you want to get rid of it, I'd say hang on to it, it's most likely to go up in value the next couple of years, considering the upgoing prices on some other older Boss pedals on Ebay.
On a sidenote, would there be one company who do have their serialnumber shit together? I don't think so I mean look at Fenders serial numbers, that's also one big pile of trash... |
