My new MT-2 before cleaning and maintenance...

MT-2 after cleaning and maintenance...

The maintenance... - Pedal completely disassembled - "gunk" on case removed with paint thinner (I am eternally grateful to Boss for making their pedals so robust...) - metal pieces (case, pedal) and knobs washed in soapy water - rust sanded off edges of base and edges sealed with clear-coat - switch disassembled, cleaned and lubricated - potentiometer shafts cleaned and lubricated (pots are sealed, so no lube for them) - input and output sockets plus 9VDC socket cleaned and lubricated - grommet replaced - circuit board cleaned with circuit board wash - all 1µF electrolytic capacitors in the signal path (6 of them) replaced with 1µF metallised polyester capacitors - 9VDC socket and potentiometers solder joints re-done (solder looked a bit dull) - schematic printed, folded, and stored inside pedal

Hi lauries2

What a good idea .. What size do you print the Schematic, & exactly where do you place them inside the pedal?
Regards Dr. Bob

I print them regular "letter" size (slightly smaller than A4) on high quality, low weight paper, and carefully fold them down (like origami). This one fitted happily between the housing and the circuit board in the "front" of the pedal (under the switch).
The other thing I do is make a note of any changes made (e.g. the caps changed) and the date of the maintenance...
Regards, Laurie

DM-3!!
A/B'd it against an Ibanez Delay Camp (which I understand to be a clone of the DM-3). Verdict: same maximum delay time; DM-3 definitely noisier, but also warmer sounding, nicer slapback delay, more 'range'in the shorter delay region.
Haven't A/B'd it with my DM-2 yet, but my impression is that it is less noisy, but less so than I expected.
Damage so far: -------------- CE-2 CS-3 DD-2 (2x) DM-2 DM-3 GE7 (MIJ) NS-2 OC-2 (MIJ) PH-1r PSM-5 RC-2 GT-5 FV50H assorted switches ----------------- Writing it down like that makes me realise that my GAS is much worse than I tricked myself into believing, as these are just my Boss fx! |

No not new. The pedal itself is flawless, but the box is faded a bit. No manual either. |

Hi Dr. Bob Thanks
And to let you all know I only paid $30 for the PSM-5 (NOS). I have trouble finding pedal only PSM-5's for that price. |

Hi Guys I just won a PSM-5 as well for $32au plus postage. And yesterday I won another FZ-2, I won it by a mere 97 cents above the last bid, in the dying seconds.
The Adrenalin, when I pressed bin now..... Maybe that's what GAS really is, it's the adrenalin rush.
The PSM-5 is a Silver Screw , going by the sellers only picture, he had a BIN, didn't mention if it had a BOx & Manul .... SO ...
Does anyone here have the PDF, of the PSM-5 users manual.
Regards Dr. Bob |
