With the addition of my recently bought 1980 flying v I think it's going to look like a real collection.

fltr gibson '81 flying v2, gibson '91 67 reisue, gibson 1980 flying v, epiphone korina 7 string, gibson '81 flying v Bass (first owner)

I took some pics of the differences between my '67 reisue(left) and my 1980 V (right)

Different headstock and machineheads nut '67 1 11/16
1980 1 9/16

Pickguard 1980 rounded by the bridge

nice collection.......... i like the V2 although i know they aren't as popular as earlier ones ...i always thought it was cool the way they bent the pickups in a boomarang shape..the only thing that would be the icing on the cake,is if they had used the original headstock shape on this model.....even a V bass and a 7 string....all you need now is the hendrix reissue V with the tremolo arm...... michael schenker and andy powell would feel right at home in your house SP-1.................

Impressive. My only V is a Harmony from JCPenney circa 1983. I wish I had a Gibby.

Sound and playability, which one do you prefer over the '67 reissue and the '80 Flying V you just acquired?

I had a V2 about 15 years ago..Just didn't like the boomerang pickups because of the lack of power (they are single coils I believe..if not than the equivalent of mini-buckers).

Nice collection!

Playability I have to say my new 1980 flying v I guess, it felt right the first time I laid my hand on her.

Soundwise I don't know yet The 1980 V sounded very good but has new strings on it, while the strings on my '67 reisue are a bit too old.
And I still can't play that loud.

The V2 is the best looking guitar I've ever seen it sound very warm playing clean stuff but indeed it lacks looooooottttsss of power.
What I understand the boomerang pickups are like single coil humbuckers.

From the flying v book: "Instead of the usual side by side placement of the two pick-up coils, an end to end placement in a v-shaped configuration is used. This enables the strings to pass over one coil only producing a true single coil sound, while remaining electrically humbucking..."

I once played the most gorgeous sunburst V you've ever seen when testdriving a Marshall amp, but this a nice collection SP-1.

That 80's V looks exactly like Kirk Hammett's old V he used to use back in the day, I have a poster here of that guitar next to James' old white one he used on Kill 'em All.

SP-1....... i really like the V2 bro'...... the fact that it has single coils would probably appeal to me even more as i'm mostly a fender player......i think i will keep an eye out for that one...a mate of mine got one of the 80's gibson 'superstrats' with the pointy headstocks for his son a couple of years back in a local auction house for 300 euro and it's not a bad guitar for what it is..... a top of the end electro acoustic also went there recently for 200/250ish according to reports...do you have a ballpark figure of current V2 prices.....? as this place can be very good for a bargain....and something like a V2 of similar have been popping up from time to time..... and would the sound be a bit like a tele or similar equipped fender with two single coils....? as i'm not a collector and something like this would actually see the light of day from gig to gig...monatary value is second.......

I think "beauty" is a Canadian expression, Franzoni. Here's a song from the 70's to prove it

I have no idea soundwise but it's definitely no tele.
Owned a gibson u2 once, a strat model with an explorer headstock, very wide neck, not a nice guitar.
V2 prices ? saw one on gbase.com sold for over $3000, bit too much imho.

What do you think of this one.
