Hi Pacafeliz Do you use one to boost the other. Or do you you them separately, on different settings?

I've tried boosting one with the other (one mij one mit) - can't seem to get a good sound that way. seems funny, I hear you can get an awesome tone (according to John Jorgenson) using one ts-9 to boost another ts-9 (listen to the Hellecasters song 'passion'), and I always was under the impression that these (sd-1 and ts-9) were virtually identical as far as schematics are concerned, the only real difference being the clipping (asymmetrical vs. symmetrical).
Maybe my amp just sucks. He does use some killer Matchless stuff. |

Awww, the beloved SD-1...I overmodified mine, and if I got another (non-mij) it'd probably get some key mods, but not all the same ones..
The ts9 and sd1 do have pretty darn close schematics. Other than the clipping, the ts9 uses a RC4558P chip, a cleaner version compared to the JRC4558DD chip. There is also a different high cut allowing more bass in the ts9. Theres a few others, but mainly has to do to lower resistance at some points along the signals path.
The SD-1 make a great overdrive and booster |

hello there doc!
well i set one with the drive to about 9 o'clock and the other on full. so i have a smooth od, a "hard" od, and if i want a nice distortion, i switch them both on at once. the "soft" od has a bit more volume to boost the preamp tubes. yum! good luck! |

Don't know if i can enter this tread being a bass player, but my ODB-3 is really starting to sound nice throught my Trace Elliot SMX bass rig I just aquiered. Didn't sound to great through my SWR head(clean preamp) I Set it to Ballence full and Gain 1, i can't believe how good this sound now. To think the ODB-3 was in my bag of "to sell" pedals. |

The OD-3 is the warmest, bluesiest, soulful pedal I have heard at any price. |

SD-1 for OD for me. And DS-1 otherwise. I'm young and cheap, but they work |

Mostly I use SD-2, a favourite since some years, in the crunch mode. For more overdrive/distotion I use DS-1. Others I sometimes use are BD-2, OD-3 and SD-1, but the above ones are in line 95% of the time. |

I found the OD1 and the DS1 the most useful. Like the BD2 a lot as well, combine this one with reverb and delay and it will get you close to the Gilmoresound.
HM2 can be very special at times, but needs lots of help from compressor and other preamps to give you its tonal secrets away.
Have fond memories of the SD2 as well, and yes its crunch-mode is nice.
It is interesting to see how some of you feel about this subject from time to time, as peoples ideas change, and of course you may use different pedals at different times for diffent applications. Again, the more you have of them, the more choice, and you will always find a special flavour in there which may please your sense for the moment. |

Well, talking about overdrives and distortions...
There was a time when I used to have a lot (and I mean, A LOT!) of distortion pedals in my set. I used to use, in my chain, SD-1 - DS-1 - DS-2, MT-2 and MD-2, amongst some other pedals (Marshall GuvNor, Jackhammer, Behringer GDI21 and one made by a Brazilian brand called Onerr, the Carbon-X, which sounds just like a TS808). Now Ive reduced them to a good number of six, meaning it that I removed DS-1, DS-2, MT-2, MD-2, GDI and the Onerr one, kept the SD-1, the GuvNor and the Jackhammer and added the Marshall Bluesbreaker II, the Digitech Bad Monkey and one pedal made by another Brazilian brand called Hobbertt, the Simulamp (another Sansamp GT2s clone, but a lot better than the GDI). Im not saying that the pedals I removed from my set are bad, far from being that; but Im not using them right now, so why keeping such a heavy set and such a large case? Ive addapted my set to what I play. |

I was just reading this interesting page about the Boss Overdrives. It's in German, so I put the page through Babelfish - it deals mainly with the differing case colours, card inserts and so on. There are links to a lot of other overdrive tests from this page too, I should study up on my German
