the reason its not liked is because if you want a distortion pedal, it will most likely disappoint you. the way i see it is that Boss has like 20 OD/dist boxes. instead of making the XT-2 just another similar version of something thats already out, Boss made a monster. i hated mine at first because i tried using it as a distortion. i also bought it because people said its between a MT-2 and HM-2.

i consider it to be a "noise maker" pedal. you really have to tweak the knobs on this one but if you sit there and put the time into it you should be happy with the sounds you can coax out of this box. put it with a phaser or wah to make neat sounds. be creative!

i think this will definately climb in price too. i got mine mint with box for 40 bucks

Well, I tried that pedal 2 days ago. I was at some store and there was a guy buying some Boss pedals. So I begun to talk to him and said that I was a Boss enthusiast and helped him with his pedals. I even told him about this forum and gave him the link. So, I told him about good distortions, that WE (haha, we are like a family right?)prefer DS-1, SD-1 and OD-1 (drives). Talked to him about years, chips... So, he asked me to try that pedal. He asked me to play. Well I did and then I said "Well, my friend, let me show ya the DS-1". So, I tried a DS-1 from 1983 and some "new" MIJ. First of all I must admit that the DS-1 from 1983 sounded like a different pedal from that mij! The difference was BIG! I became very surprised cuz I didnīt know that the difference was huge!!! The guy said "WOW!!!! I will not buy that Xtortion! The DS-1 kicked it butt! No way!!!". About me, I didnīt like that pedal too. It was like "Are you kidding Boss????".

ya like i said, its not for everyone. i think its more for people that already have their main distortion sounds but want something a little different.

JohnRocks, you should bought the 1983 DS-1!!
