Everybody is talking great things about the DS-1... is there any love for the DS-2 Turbo Distortion on the board?

I might have love for it because of Kurt Cobain using it but other than that I guess I'd give the 1980's version a try

As a matter of fact I tried mine a couple of days ago, and I was surprised that it sounded quite good. I didnīt like the turbo mode that much, but the normal is not far from as good as DS-1. Not he same sound but very usable.

Not so much as love, but maybe like it some? It's not the worst that Boss has put out that's for sure!

I like it very much indeed. It's a little noisy when cranked, but it has better bass and sweeter treble than a DS-1 (regardless of where the DS-1 was made). Mode 1 has the same voicing as a DS-1, but Mode 2 has a nice gnarly mid-range spike which does a decent interpretation of some expensive high-gain sounds.

It probably has too few EQ options for metal players and doesn't have enough gain for the more extreme distortion fans - but I can always find a use for it.

Yeah man, I like it !
It was the first Boss pedal I've got. I use to put my CS-3 or my Boosted Line Selector before it to give more gain to DS-2...

Is easy to get some Pearl Jam sounds , specially on Turbo mode II, and it get great sounds using an OD pedal together...

For me, at the first look, the mode I have essentially the same sound of the MIT DS-1...

I almost trade it some days ago, but I'm thinking the DS-2 is one of the pedals that the production will be finished by Roland.

This could happen when you donīt use a pedal (or anything with electronic components) for a long time. The electrolytes dries up, I donīt know how fast but Iīve been told to fire up my amps at least twice a year to keep the electrolytes happy.
I do the same with my pedals, even the nasty XT-2 .
As a collector this is important to have in mind, use them all now and then.

I donīt know if this is what have happened to your DS-2, but it is a possibility.

I can't say I love it, but for same token would not say I dislike it.

I think you nailed it on the head with the comment about the DS-1. I think because there are so many Boss Dist. pedals, and some of them are really great, the DS-2 may be easily overlooked.

Currently I use the MD2 a lot, and guess what kind of sound I am going for? Something like a DS-1 but with a bit more bass. Easy to overlook this sound if you just would see the MD2 one as a Metal Pedal.

BEcause not having enough time really, I still have not played all the Boss Dist. to death, [MT2 is once I hardly use, but then it is great.........] and once you start combing pedals you will find so much more--GE6 does wonders for any pedal which lacks bass---!!!

From my playing around times with the DS-2 I can remember I like the midrangesound, it is quite ugly and urgent, something which the DS-1 does not offer, as it sounds smoother.

Having said that the SD-2 does also have some of that midrange and urgency, so there we go again, because there is so much choice it is hard really, and at times we all have our own favourites, so perhaps the DS-2 is not one of mine at the time, but I just need to open more cans of time and dig a little deeper.

Yes, MD-2 is quite versatile; you can even get a nice bluesy overdrive using it. And itīs capable of some serious distortion as well.
I bought it really cheap and tried it, put it in the archives and forgot it. I thought this was a pedal strictly for heavy metal.
A couple of weeks ago I got my eyes on MD-2 and tried it out, and I can say that my opinion changed. This is a good pedal with a range that is impressing.

mine's a modded one.. I have no idea how the original sounds... but this one makes the harmonics just jump out of the pedal... and it sustains for ages... on some settings, it sounds like it has a chorus pedal on top.. or like it's being boosted by a CS-3... I really like it, but it doesn't clean up as much as the DS-1 whith volume turned down... it's my main distortion pedal right now !

what's the sound difference between the stock DS-1 and stock DS-2?
