I came across this on the internet, don't know if it's mentioned here before but it sounds interesting. As I don't own a multieffect I would like to know if this connection works from you guys, just curious.
Plug your guitar into the input of the multi-effects unit. Plug the mono out of the multi-effects unit into your amp's effect loop return. Plug the send of the effects box into the input of the amp (where you'd normally connect your guitar). Plug the effect loop send of the amp into the multi-effects unit's effect loop return. If the effects loop of the multi-effect unit can be switched on or off make sure you have it switched on
Yeah that makes sense for multieffects users allows them to utalize all three aspects:
Multieffects Preamps Amp's Preamp Multieffects Time based effects
Most people who have a multieffects just tend to stick it in front of the amp no matter what. Atleast thats what ive seen at a lot of (un-proffessional) gigs.

yep me.... unfortunately my amps are too old for effects loops so the only option i have is in the front end with my rack.....plus i don't really want to start putting effects loop into my gear(all my amps are over 30 years old) until i read about how a lot of the LA session guys like Carlton and Landau etc do it..... put a mic on the speaker of the amp with only your guitar or booster/dist/drive/wah...etc in the front end and use the signal into the rack going out to a power amp and a couple of speaker cabs either side....it mean you can run you rig wet/dry/wet with the mod/delay/reverb going stereo either side....or carlton run his through a mackie mixer and out to a couple of JBL eons with can also double as cool stereo acoustic amp ...........
My GT-8 always seems to sound best with the line output just plugged into the amp's effect return, but maybe that's because all the amps I own are cheap solid state ones and bypassing their preamps is generally a good move!
