G'day! I have an OD-2R that the mode switch is busted on. I don't want to buy one part from Roland and spend huge $ on shipping, so I'm considering replacing the broken Boss rotary switch with a standard "toggle" switch.

It would look something like this when I'm done (the layout of three knobs then a silver switch, not the text). What do you think?

Would mounting it vertically (so the toggle flips up/down rather than left/right) make it easier to use? Looks like there'd be little room for fingers in there.

If you could find a matching (black) toggle it might fit in better. I thing a toggle would be easier to use than some of those small rotaries anyway.

Thanks for taking a look!

I think I'll have to mount it to switch side-to-side like the example though because it will line up better with the labelling that way?

I would put a miniature latching push switch instead so that I can switch it possibly with my foot.

The solution you suggested looks very nice too.

Ohhhh... I'm really glad I asked the question in here. That's a great idea! It's only SPST, so I should be able to get something easily....

I like cctsim's latching switch idea.

However, If you were going to go with the toggle idea, I'd have to agree with nathanscribe that mounting it vertically would be a much better option (sure it doesn't match up so well with the text, but functionality is probably a more important consideration). Also, one of those black rubber waterproof covers you can get for toggle switches would probably make the toggle option look more professional...

Still, I like the latching idea. If you were going to use your foot to switch it though you'd want a pretty sturdy switch!

I agree,something like this

will be more desirable but knowing Boss pedals, there is not going to be enough space inside.

A decent quality small latching push-switch is a goood idea.

Re: toggle & legending - you could easily put a sticker over the "on/off" markings. If you print one from a PC or something you could probably match the text and colouring near enough.

I think an even better solution is for me to send you the two way switch from an old CE-3 that I'm already stripping for parts.
If you want it, let me know.

Isn't the OD-2R already controlable via FS? isn't that what the switch Laurie is talking about selects (remote or not)?

If you used footswitches would you have one footswitch to select weather the other footswitch controlled the pedal? I can see how that might be useful. I guess you could use an FS-6... I'm not familiar with the OD-2R so maybe I'm just confused!
