Hey guys, so I bought a Boss PN 2 for pretty cheap, but it is somewhat modified in that the previous owner made the second input jack a 'remote on/ off switch'. I guess he wanted to be able to hook up a footswitch from far away and click the pedal on and off. I have some spare input/ output Boss 'style' jacks laying around and I assume it is a quick switching of the jacks, de-soldering the connection to the on/ of circuit, and resoldering to where the B input hits the board. So if anyone can possibly take a picture of their B input jack and where it connects to the board, that would be awesome! My email is yabo83@yahoo.com, which is a good place to send the picture.

Hi, too hard to take a photo but...
The signal from input B is wired to the board at a spot labelled "2" at the top right corner of the board (top being the end with the power socket). It is immedeately to the left of the resistor labelled "R2" which is at the very right edge of the board.
The "1" position above is where the signal from input A attaches to the board.
The ground from input B is wired directly to the ground for input A (ie they have a shared ground). So assuming input A is still wired correctly all you need to do is ground those two together and wire your B signal to "2". Easy.

So I think I got everything wired back together right, but now I seem to get some kind of popping noise that goes along with the tremolo or panning cycles. It only occurs in input A. Any ideas?

What power source are you using? Is the signal for both inputs coming from another pedal?
Wierd that you only get the popping in input A...
Sorry Cam, I can't really help you with this sort of problem (I don't know enough about electronics), but hopefully one of the resident experts will be along shortly to point you in the right direction. |

Some of the PN2s were known to have some kind of popping/clicking, but never heard it with my PN2. Makes me wonder if Boss made changes later in production.
Another possiblity is there is a bad cap or resistor along the A's tone path. Also see if any of the components have been swapped by looking for solder thats been reworked, or if any parts don't match. Good chance since they modded it to be mono in only.
Since there is no available schems of this pedal, you might have to compare some good quality pics versus your PN2. |
