| Hello everyone, Im new to the forum, you guys are great with all the good info!!! So anyway, There is a Keeley Mod CS-2 (or supposed to be) on ebay , Maybe Im from the dark ages , but Ive not seen any mods for CS-2 pedals. Personally Im quite happy with the few Ive got. But for experimentation would like to know how and if you can make one better. I have done the Monte Allums CS-3 and it was much better than a stock CS-3, still I prefer the CS-2. Please let me know whats up!!!!! |

Hi jamminJ71
First of all, welcome to the forum from Australia.
The CS-2 is held in very high regard here on the forum. I don't think any of us here have modded, or have wanted to mod our CS-2's.
I have a CS-2 that is very dark, but that was due to a component failure. You mentioned that you have a few of them?
Do you know, what the Keeley mod, supposedly adds to the CS-2?
Thanks for your kind words about the forum.
Regards Dr. Bob

jamminj:
there's a ton of keeley modded pedals out there that aren't sold as stock or with stock mods on his site.
i believe a few years back (before he was as famous as now) that he used to do a lot of mods by request, often along the lines of "make it sound better" or "give it more bass."
you'll even find the occasional "make it true bypass" ones with drilled out cases for switches.
a pretty standard set of mods is to swap out the electrolytics in the tone section of the pedal for equivalent value metal film caps (up to 1uf) and/or the occasional electrolytic for tantalum cap swap. the metal film swaps should be cheap. the tantalums in the 10uf and higher range can be rather pricey. |

Got one mod I had kicking around, haven't tried it, and don't endorse modding a CS2, but since you asked C8 .01->1uf will change a low pass, fuller C4,C20 .047->1uf more fuller and quieter C5 .01->.0047uf another low pass
The CS2 and the MXR Dyna schems are very similar, minus the Attack knob

Thanks Dr Bob , Well,in reply to your question, I found out the Keeley Mod CS-2 is really just a tune up, new jacks, and caps. Thanks. |

Hi jamminJ71 & guys
Thanks for the update on the Keeley CS-2 mod.
It's just that ere was a few of us here, shaking our heads, wondering why you would ever want to mod the CS-2.
Christo, is correct when he says that the CS-2 & the Dynacomp have very similar circuits.
But in my personal opinion, the VCA IC that is in the CS-2 has a better internal design. VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier).
Are you still going to mod your CS-2's? I/we would be very interested in the outcome, if you do.
Regards Dr. Bob |

Hello Dr. Bob and everyone, well , I am really with you guys in the fact that I think the CS-2 is excellent as is and needs no modification. I have enough of these to experiment, however, one is all I care to give this "tune up" to and see what the outcome is. Yes ,I will definately post the outcome of this experiment. Thank you Christo for help with some tech stuff and to you Jedi Masters for your posts. jamminJ71 |
