It is ROUGH. It is missing the truss-rod cover-plate. it needs a new nut. But it all works and the neck is straight.
It is a MIJ Vantage (looks like a VP-795 to me). Cost me the massive sum of $9.99

Nice duct tape strap locks.
But hey as long as the neck is straight and it has a comfortable feel, it is a good deal for a beater guitar. Are you going to swap out anything like the pickups or tuners? |

Dunno yet about swapping stuff out... will see how it all fits together when I've reconditioned it.
First playing (with E, A, and D strings ) is pretty good. Even tone across those three strings, no feedback.
The duct tape got better - when I took it off I found a beer-bottle cap with a hole through it as a "lock washer" |

Frets are good. Fingerboard is good. It's obviously been played, but no real wear on either. |

Great find Laurie! I had exactly the same model back in the eighties, as I remember it was a very good guitar, nice wood ang great sound. Like everybody else at the time I swapped the pickups for DiMarzio Super Distortions. I still have the original pickups but sadly not the guitar.

Nice find Laurie.
A set of straplocks, a trusscover, a new nut and 3 strings are gonna cost you more than the guitar itself. |

Oh... YOU GUYS!!
Well, I'm cleaning it up slowly. Will take it into the music store tomorrow to see if I can get a pre-cut nut that fits. The nut on the guitar is very strange - made of brass (good) but with a wierd filing pattern - small "E" is filed to take a string as large as big "E" (not good).
I'm not sure whether to sand the whole thing back to bare wood, fill the dings and holes and re-lacquer, or just clean it and leave it as a "relic". It's neck-thru so a repaint includes the back of the neck (carefully avoiding the fretboard). On the other hand, I'm sure the wood will come up brilliantly with a relacquer. What do you think?
