Hi adamskyyy
Red Light on half power. Some early CS-3's might be ACA 12V pedals, check the sticker near the DC socket. Does it say ACA or PSA ACA = 12V PSA = 9V
Are you using a 9V REGULATED adapter? Or maybe your DC power adapter isn't really giving out 9VDC, can you check this with a multimeter - Voltmeter. Remember it will about 9VDC if it's regulated & a bit higher if it's not regulated.
As the CS-3 works fine on a 9V battery, it's unlikely that it is faulty.
Hope this helps

Hi adamskyyy,
Yes, I agree with Dr. Bob, if the unit is working with a poor 9V battery then CS-3 does not have any problem! Are you sure that the AC adaptor really provide 9V (and not less) -> can you measure it? Can you borrow a well known good adaptor from anybody else around you? Would be an evidence where is the problem truly!
cheers |

Yup, make sure the adapter is up to spec - 9 volts DC regulated (very important), with proper filtering and all that. Many no-name adapters aren't designed to work this closely with audio signals, and can have very substandard filtering.
Also, prior to mid 1997, the CS-3 wanted to see 12 volts DC on the adapter jack (while it still worked fine from a 9 volt battery). Like Dr.Bob said, if yours has the "ACA" sticker, it will need either a different adapter or a modification to work with a regulated 9vDC supply. Left alone, the LED will barely light up when powered from a 9 volt adapter.
As with all pre-1997 ACA pedals, as soon as you daisy chain them (let them share the adapter power with other pedals) and connect the signal cables, they will work fine with 9 volts as long as there's at least one "normal" (PSA) pedal in the chain.
