Hi there! Well, I have a disease called "modulation syndrome". Its a kind of disease that affects musicians around the world. It begins when the person has questions like "Chorus or Flanger?". So, well, I used to have a BF-2, MIJ some years ago(it was made in 1989). I loved that pedal but it sounded very high I think. Then I tried some chorus pedals. So I got more sick and the question was "I cant find the holy grail!!". I went to the store yesterday(same one where I sold my OD-1 and then someone here called the store but my friend didnt realise that u were talking about me guys!LOL!! He said something like "John who?") so I tried a BF-2 (orange label 1994 to 1997) and a CH-1. I wanna buy that BF-2 cuz as I posted tow years ago I think, BF-2 can "work as a chorus too". That BF-2 sounded a lil different than my old BF-2. So, my questions are: Are there any differences between mij and mit Bf-2? Does that pedal (orange label) sound different from others Bf-2? Can u please help me people? I wanna buy that pedal on Monday and its like mint condition.

God bless you all and tks for helping me. John

Hi Johnrocks

Best advice I can try to give you is:

Close your eyes & listen to it with your ears & heart.

Dr Bob is right...use your ears and and heart if it works for you great.... some people swear there is a difference between jap and taiwanese BF-2's ..i think the doc would tell you there is differences in the different CE-2's out there....if it floats your boat go for it.....

I think there might just be a difference in every pedal...perhaps if you got two that were made recently and at pretty much the same time they might sound the same, but...I had a 1984 BF-2 and an 1989 BF-2, both MIJ and they sounded different...
John - I have to third the idea that you must trust your own ears, just give yourself a chance to hear a lot of options...don't count out the HF-2, either...

There can be differences in every pedal of the same kind as some component values may change slightly over time in some pedals. Plus the tolerances of the components used in the pedals will probably vary a bit from pedal to pedal, and these factors in turn could make similar pedals sound a bit different from each other.

Yeah! That BF-2 sounds a way better than the one I had (MIJ 89). And Ill do that same thing too thats using my BF-2 not only as a Flanger but to emulate a Chorus like the way I used to do. Its 9:47 am here in Rio de Janeiro and its raining! A heavy rain!Ha, the prob is that I was sick two days ago. Im just for God giving a chance to go to the store and buy my BF-2 (its already mine, the seller is a Boss maniaca too and hes keeping it for me!)and Im very excited to get that pedal again! I post a pic after I bring it home!

from your story, I feel like we are all going down to the store with you.

Please take some pics of the rain & the streets & the store, as well.

Just don't get sick again...

you can still make out it's an orange label on the pedal so that might give you a country of origin.... boss area is probably the man for this if you want an exact date of manufacture....but i can't think of a better way to pass the time on a rainy day than playing with a new pedal......enjoy... i have a BF-2 i bought a couple of years ago,i drove about 40 miles outside of the city into a different county for it with a mate...the people selling it were a father and son and were amazed i drove all the way at 10.30pm at night for a boss flanger...i guess you have to be a bit for boss pedals.... BF-2's come up for sale very rarely in the small ad's in dublin anymore, mostly the newer BF-3 or lately the CE-20 seems to be cropping up quite a bit for around the 150 euro mark....

Bossarea was kind enuff to send me a nice e-mail about the pedal. Here it is: "Hi John,
Nice view from your flat. I used to live in a tall building but it's a long time ago.The label is orange but it isn't in the label gallery as I haven't got any of these myself and haven't found a good picture one yet. Orange labels were only used on the BF-2 and CE-2B between 1994 and 1997. The earliest orange labels didn't have the CE marking on them. This was introduced around 1996 so your BF-2 is most likely a 1996 or 1997.

Hope that helps,
Borge"
