Hi!
Does the PSM-5 have a buffer as well when bypassed (or when its on by the way)? I think that it is a A/B box, or is it not that simple? |

I havn't looked inside of mine, but my guess is it's buffered as it has the momentary switch for function. P.S. A quick check to see if your pedal is tru bypass or not is to remove the batt. or power supply. It'll pass signal if tru bypass in bypass mode. |

Absolutely right! I just didnt thought about it. The question was about how good it is to do A/B tests with. Clean signal and pedalboard signal. But if it buffers the clean will still not be clean cause of the buffer in that case. |

That's a touchy subject that has been discussed at legnth here... Boss buffers. Some like em, some don't. I always thought they are pretty good! Having said that I own quite a few tru bypass pedals, including all my Zvex's. |

The PSM-5 is definitely buffered in both modes. I use mine a lot and have never detected a difference in tone between on and off - so either they're both equally good, or equally bad!

You could build an A/B box for cheap, a couple jacks, 3 pole swich and an LED, as some pedals don't work great after a buffer. This would include certain wahs, the Fuzz Factory, for that matter most fuzz pedals. For most A/ B tests, your PSM-5 will work fine! |

Yep, there's a big ol circuitboard inside the PSM-5. they have been criticized at length for sucking tone; but again, depends on each unit, which if used, should be tested out. I have a MIJ one that is sensitive to which PSA adapter I plug into it... scratching noises if jostled etc, but thankfully, it does not suck tone!

| I have never had any problems with the buffer in the Boss pedals. I like them. I asked about the PSM just because I thought it will be nice to test a/b with buffered pedals and one straight unbuffered into the amp. But I guess that one buffer before amp maybe not destroy the signal in either way. How is the A/B box A B-2 from BOSS. Is that also buffered? |

| i would doubt the ABY does, most are passive and only use power for LED indicators. |
