just got hold of an Aphex punch Factory compressor. so far, i'm really chuffed with it. I'm not normally a fan of compression, but i think this one may change my thinking a little! (I need to spend some more time with it before i make a definitive decision!)

Bought a MI Audio Blues Pro last week, hand wired from Australia. This is one of the best overdrive I ever heard, clarity, transparency and dynamics are top. Check out www.miaudio.com

Had a look at the website goran..they look like very serious pedals...the booster pedal has a 35db boost.... that is seroiusly loud into a cleanish sounding amp.....also anyone using guitars with powerful or active pickups should be happy as the can take up to 25v DC power so it should give them some headroom for the pickups to work with.... enjoy the blues pro.... |

Picked up a real score yesterday on evilbay, a Vox Thomas Organ Stereo Fuzz Wah model 9-3700 from the '60s From the pics, its a pre-chrome version, more like a Crybaby, and the logo was on the toe-bar thats meant to turn on the Fuzz. The one I'm getting is missing the toebar, but a peice of wood/metal should work as well. Very limited stuff on the net especially when Vox and TO were together briefly. Read something about the Stereo outputs and something about panning...
Someone is selling theres on evilbay too, with the toebar Catch the fuzz wave again

Finally found MI Audio.. I should listen to Goran!
That's great mate! Hows the MI OD now that you've had it a while?
I'm surprised Dr. Bob hasn't commented on MI Audio.. they sure sound proud that they're Australian! |

OOps! Did not realize this venue existed. So I'll repost my latest acquisition here -- the BBE Stinger.
Bought on eBane, and the fellow says it is broken, but it was pretty cheap. Further discussion with the seller informed me that he got it second-hand and that there is electrical tape wrapped around the circuit board. Hopefully it is something simple like a switch or jack.
Apparently this pedal is the stomp version of the Sonic Maximizer; a cousin to the Boss EH-2. It is supposed to live at the end of a chain.

SO the Stinger came in the mail! The guy had told me that it does not work, but it does... loose board-mounted input jack.
The 9V battery terminal is gone, but it fires up with a PSA.
Some pics: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The non-component side of the PCB, with tape and paper splint: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Couple shots of the component side of the PCB... note the severed battery leads.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So there ya have it! |
| Disco Stu, in the 2nd picture it looks like there have been some soldering by hand. Was the pedal repaired or modded? |
DarrinPA, I'm not sure, but looking at it carefully, the dirty-looking solder tracks on the left are what attach the I/O jacks to the board. As one of them is intermittent, it's possible someone tried to repair one or both in the past, or bad factory solder joints could be a source of the problem.
I will try the Q-tip and contact cleaner on the inside of the jacks before hooking it up again. |
| I was refering to some connections on the right [of the picture], that appear to be under random components. |
OK DPA,
Now I realize what you are talking about. Those connections go to the IC labelled "HEF40138P ; HNH84223 3" in slot "U3" on the board. Interestigly, one lead from a cap labelled "C11A" seems to across four of the six bottom legs of that chip. Other than the orangey flux residue that appears in the photo, the solder joints appear the same as the others to the naked eye. In the photo, the flash makes those solder joints stand out.
The joints I was referring to in the above post (those connecting the jacks to the board) are covered by tape in that shot... Duhh on my part.
To me, that's the only thing that looks like it's been messed with after the factory, and that's what is acting up!
Hi Disco Stu
Can you please also post the pics of your BBE Stinger to the "Pedal Internals Thread" that way you get the Credit Count on the post.
Any chance of some better closeups, of the component side?
Does your Digital Camera have a Macro closeup more?
Regards Dr. Bob  |
