8 pedals in a row surely degrades the signal even if they are all in the off position.
A solution is to use a clean booster before or after all pedals, I prefer before.
Another is to bypass all pedals with, for example, a Boss LS-2 when you want a straight to amp sound.
Using a EH-2 after all pedals will clear everything up but not do anything to the volume.
Are you sure your powersupply (if used) have enough power to drive all 8 pedals?
