Just curious what you guys think of the CS-1 pedal? Please post your likes and dis-likes. I have 2 but I am not sure if I love or hate them? |

I like the switch I like the sound of CS-1 very moderately set, but as you turn the sustain knob up (anything above 9 oclock) I think it pumps too much and sound too much as a compressor, if that makes sense

Its one one I pick over the CS2 for picking, and love the treble setting. Its a harder comp, far from subtle. To me its a keeper, but not always in my effects chain. |

Goran,
that is why it is a compressor
About the sound it is totally untouched by any internal electronics means it has a really neutral and uncoloured output signal due to using opto-coupling element. Only the disadvantage what Goran has described before but the technology in the late '70 was ready for this result! I like it and CS-1 really fulfill my expectations! Great deal!

I've had one of each of Boss' compressors and I prefer the CS-1 over the successors. Unlike previous posters I can't use the treble setting; way too bright for me, so I stick with the normal setting. It just sounds more natural to me than the CS-2 or CS-3.
Although I'm probably not one to offer an opinion on this. I have a CS-1 but it's not in my pedalboard. It's in my music room in a cabinet with other Boss effects and other brand name products. I take it out and mess with it now and then. I don't gig with it since I use a tube amp and IMO I don't need a compressor in that setup. And strangely enough the last time I recorded with it, I was recording a bass track...it worked *very* well in that situation, reducing unwanted pops and slaps.
I dig my CS-1; just wish I had a box and manual for it because most of my pedals are complete sets. |

I still don't know how I feel. It does "pump" like Goran said, but the treble switch can be nice. I think I will just keep my June 79' and sell the April 81' that I have. The 81 CS-1 is about a 9 out of 10 if any of you are interested. I would like to find an OD-2 in the box if anyone wants to work something out? No biggy if I keep it though. |
