A serial number that late should have a black screw- considering the SP-1 was discontinued a month later that should be one of the last ones ever made (he even states this in his listing)
Notice he has an SG-1 with an inked serial number and a black screw on offer as well; alarm bells anyone??
A while ago we were discussing whether Laurie's 115300 SP-1 was original ss or not. This one has ss and serial number 115200 so it's another indication that maybe all SP-1s was ss?
The SG-1s from July 1980 and that should really have a silver screw though surely- I'd say it looks too much like a case of part swapping between the 2 pedals- pretty naughty behaviour really; anyone got the number for the Boss cops?
I've never seen a pedal with a 6 digit serial and a silver screw- nor an inked serial with a black screw for that matter......
There are definately black screw SP-1s in existence; as shown in the Ultimate Boss Book - I doubt they would have still been making ss versions Oct 81 (always though ss changeover was april/may 1980) but who knows eh?
I'd strongly suspect the box is not from 1981 either, it looks a lot earlier than that- maybe thats why he swapped the screws around, so the pedal matches the box............
I think most cases of ink-stamp/6-digit cusp screw-swapping are really just that.. a seller swapping out a screw to make more money on a sale. It's easy to take the SS off an old pedal and say it was lost/switched before they ever owned it..
Putting an SS on a 6-digit pedal seems like a deliberate attempt at fraud - people know it's worth more but don't know the serial number limitations. (this hearkens back to the OD-1 topic I posted a few days ago - at least this says "use a coin")
