Hi Guys
For my 5001st post, I'm going to ask for some info & help.
Yes Dr. Bob has been looking at Bass guitars.
I have found an Ibanez Ergodyne EDB500 or (EDB 500) bass I believe that the bodies of these guitars, were made from some special poly resin or composite. I believe they had a really good reputation, not to mention tone.
Basically I'm asking if anyone here has any info on these? Or if they have actually gigged one.
Laurie & I have been chatting about it in PM And he seems to have found that people are hanging on to their Ergodynes.
There seems to be very few for sale, or at least passed in for not reaching reserve. Which would tend to confirm this.
For those interested, it's a 4 string, in a soft gun metal grey(gray). And I think it has a slight silver metallic flake in it as well. Not too many gig bumps, & just a couple of little chips on the very top of the head stock. Plays like a charm, nice action for me at least, I haven't been able to test it through a Bass Amp yet. So can't tell how good the pickups & tone is yet.
Asking price is $399au -
I have already mentally engraved my name on the back of her.
Regards Dr. Bob |

I can't testify for the tone as I never plugged on in, but have you actually picked one of those things up?
The backs are just too strange for my taste.
If that kind of thing is right up your alley, go for it!

I have played them in a music shop they sound similar to basswood guitars but feel really funny. If you like the ergodyne idea i would rather go for the wooden version. I believe to have read something about them having a real wood version.
the back of the ergodyne basses feel really really funny in my opinion. |

I've tried a few over the past bunch of years, and I do like the feel and tone of the older, non-wood bodied models. It may just be the thing you're looking for.
The new "ergodyne" stuff isn't quite the same level, I don't think, but may have an inexpensive wood body. $400 sounds pretty fair, they were ~$800 brand new, I believe. The serial should indicate the year it was made within the first two digits.
