Actually looking to buy a guitar for my metal ambitions... This guitar would be ONLY for heavy stuff. If I was to choose the sounds of bands they are as follows:
Deftones, Dethklok, Pantera and the likes...
Different sounds I know, but something that could be close to replicating all of those sounds would be amazing! My strat is just a little too twangy for me on this stuff...
Mostly been looking at Esp and Ltd (pretty similar), but would like to hear more opinions and specific models if possible... playing lead and rhythm.
Thanks as always bossarea |

| Back in my youth when i was playing metal i liked any of the ibenez RG series. the necks felt really really good, was pretty light and comfortable. the pickups are a little to be desired. I never like the sound of stock pickups for some reason i always seem to replace them,i think the manufactures just put cheap ones in to cut costs down. but i would choose the rg series |

Any guitar with EMG 81/85 pickups or similar hot pickups. It's important that it's a 2 humbucker guitar. Single coils are you problem.
I have this one..

and this one...

and they both work well for that type of music.

+1 on Aarons post, EMG's and Jacksons = metal! Just one question, have you tryed EQ and a gate ? I play speed metal/ thrash style with my stock paisly pink telecaster. Certainly not thought of as a metal machine! It's all about proper EQing and gateing. If ya really like your strat, a couple of pedals will make it work. |

As above. It's all about eq, compressors, and gates.
Get them right and you can play metal on practically any guitar. |

| If you still want to go for active humbuckers, before you go mainstream with the historical EMG-81, check out the competition. IMHO Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts for example beat EMGs hands down. |

I had one of those, before I got my Les Paul (and my senses) but this guitar screams "METAL", the stock Epi pickups aren't that good, but fill it with your preferred pu's, put on a heavier gauge of strings, tune to Drop whatever, and learn to grunt.
Really great guitars for a decent price:

Compressed Blackstar Ht-distx.
I play a freaking telecaster and I can sound like a metal player. (which isn't what I desire, just experimenting) |

Epiphone Goth G-400 with .56 Strings i think. heavy tops and light bottoms (although i customized it) i dont even consider buying a pricey guitar cause this ones meaaaan sounding. My pedals and amp take me where ever i want to go. Paid like $600 for it 6 or 7 years ago. It's definitely a thrasher. Only downside of it is that its only ok for chord work but ive got another geet for that... |

yeah i had problems with it too but i found a way around it with custom strings. It sounds great with my current string choice but shit with any other choice. I bought a lot of strings that i put on and took right off. Until I decided to use an ernie ball/d'addarrio split. |

The high-end B.C Rich models are really fly, they're made for metal, especially if you have EMG's with the 18v mod... I personally dig the neck through models of the warlock and beast, I'll have pics in the gear thread soon |
