Hi guys,
Recently i bought a used DD-3 unit. I tested it all out excerpt the Direct Out.I thought the Direct out referred to DI Box that sort of thing. After make some research, it supposely mimic the Sitar effect. Eventually i try it out. After plugging it in to the amp tru Direct Out to the amp, i discovered that there's no sitar kinda thing coming out of it and yes there is sound coming out of it but without any effect(dry signal).Everything is seem to be working just fine except the Direct out. What could be the problem? Has anyone here ever face this kind of problem?
Thanks

The direct out is your dry signal. You can go stereo with it, having one amp delayed, and the other dry. Theres nothing wrong with your pedal |

Here's the Boss settings for the sitar effect:

I seem to remember having problems getting this effect to work, I was probably plugged into the wrong jack too. It did work eventually, sounds reasonably like a sitar but not as convincing as some other pedals (e.g. the Freakshow Maharishi). |

what a relief!! Thanks mattaqua. For once i thought that my unit was a defect unit. It prove me wrong.
Hi there guitrat!! How did you get it working? Wouldnt it make the Delay sound weird if tweak the f.back knob to max? I means it produce a infinity ringing feedback that sort of thing. Care to share?
Thanks |

Just plugged in the DD-3 to try it again. I did just what the diagram shows, remember to put another spare cable into the direct out (it shouldn't connect to anything else). Guitar to input, output to amp.
You're right about the feedback control, at max the pedal feeds back and is unuseable, I turned it down to about 4 o'clock until the oscillation stopped.
Hearing it again, to me it's more the familiar pipe-flange sound than 'sitar' (I think I got something similar with a BF-2). There's no discernable delay as such because you have the DD-3 on the lowest delay setting.
For single notes it can sound a bit sitar-y, maybe with more experimentation I could get a better sound, possibly adding other pedals to the mix. Will report back if I do try this. |

Hey, this is fun. I've discovered overdrive can make a big difference. I'm just running the DD-3 into my little Marshall transistor practice amp with the gain up full. For some reason it helps if I have the OD-1 in front of the DD-3 but switched off, I suppose any pedal would do, it's maybe boosting the signal a bit.
I was trying to improve the single note 'sitar' sound, and by accident hit on this cool sitar drone sound. It sounds like several strings on a sitar (or another Indian instrument I don't know the name of) ringing in unison, great on low notes. I can also get that 'detune' thing they do with a note if I twist the delay knob up & then back a little.
Will definitely have to try and make a clip (even for my own information), the settings I have the DD-3 on are: Level: 12 o'clock, Feedback: Max then just reduced enough to stop runaway oscillation, Delay: 8 o'clock, Mode: 50ms
Delay time is critical to the sound, turn it down to about the 8 o'clock mark until it hits on that stronger fuzzy sound. Playing open, 5th fret and open on E, A & D gives the drone sound, a lot of harmonics and string interaction. YMMV

No problem, I enjoyed messing around with it.
Here's my very first 'internet recording', a short clip of the sitar sound: http://www.df2006.f2s.com/mp3/sitar01.mp3
If you listen carefully at the start you can just about hear the droning of other strings in the background behind the louder 'chord', it didn't come through too well in the recording.
This was an OD-1 into a DD-2. My DD-3 is, er.. kaput (again). I think the DD-3 has stopped working for good, it never worked very often anyway. The DD-2 gets the same sounds. For anyone that actually likes this sound, the settings were: OD-1 - Level (half past 9) Overdrive (11 o'clock); DD-2 - Effect & Feedback Max (yes, it isn't as wild on the DD-2 as it is on the DD-3) Delay time (half past 9, you'll sense the slightly louder fuzzier spot) Mode 50ms. Good fun getting a recording made, I'll have to do some more.

Thanks for giving it a listen Dr Bob, I just ran a 3.5 cable from the headphone out on my amp to my mic in on the PC. It took a bit of wiggling different jacks on the pedals to stop a lot of hum (maybe I need to investigate the jack sockets). It's got me interested in doing some more clips, they can only get better |
