is it faulty?

G'day! Have you tried it on batteries? What power supply are you using?

I also own a CE20. The way to get rid of the background noise (which only happens on some modes, not all) is... Change the power adapter. Don't use it with power chained from other pedals. Use batteries. |

Notice that both people having this problem are in the UK; think what you could be experiencing is earthing problems - on the Boss PSA adaptor for the UK market (ie 3 pin plug) the earth pin on the plug is plastic and therefore disconnects the earth from the pedal
On cheap power supplies the earth pin on the plug is ofen metal and also connected; you are then in effect connecting your device to the entire earthing circuitry of your house/venue along with any other device that is switched on at the same time - strange aeroplane noises and modem sounds etc etc sounds very familiar....
It seems to affect audio equipment in the UK - I recently backed a new *refurb* laptop (with a cheap generic power supply) because I had this interference problem and now realised what it was - covered the earth pin on the plug with electrical tape and now its sweet
Try it with either the Boss PSA or put a bit of tape round the earth pin on yours and let us know if thats improves the situation - I'd be interested to know if this improves things....

i've tried it on batteries which solves the problem (but creates and equal one of needing to watch batteries), and i've tried it with a boss PSC on the chain and my rocktron DC on tap where the problem persists, both also have plastic earth pins, i've also tried filtering that part of the chain and the problem persists.
shall i just buy a separate PSA and put a plug board under the pedal board?
thanks for the help guys |

Yes - a PSA will almost certainly solve the problem.
