I´ve read somewhere that SD-1 should sound about the same as Ibanez tube screamers; I tested them back to back yesterday and found that they sound very different to my ears. I also tested a TS808RI against an OD-1, this one was closer but not really there. So which Boss OD/dist sounds closest to a Tube Screamer, if not any of the above???
OD-1 is definitively close. The "medium boost" is even more present on the OD-1, and there is this Tone control on the TS-808. But they sure sound the same way.
I think a little tweaking around the OD-1 could give the same sound as the TS-808. But why on earth would we do that ?
There are only a few components that are different in the SD-1 and TS, from what I have read. I've also read that there are many differences. Which is true, I don't know, but I do have an SD-1 that is modified to sound more like a TS than the stock SD-1.
"Why not just use a TS?" you may ask. Well, I have tried that and three of them died on me, so now I'm going with the less expensive alternative.
