Hello everybody, I habe a serious doubt on one of my MXR's Phase 90... I bought it used recently, it DOES HAVE a LED under the MXR brick logo, but the orange color is not as brilliant/fluorescent as the latest reissues... nor like the oldest ones...

But, the strangest thing about it is that it has no AC jack, instead, ir has a king of Plug jack, kind of 1/8"... I've lookd up por a similar pedal on ebay and i found two interesting cases:

The first one is "vintage" (early 80's) MXR Phase 90 brick logo, WITH LED (I believe it was by this time that MXr first included LEDs on their pedals) AND no AC jack... instead, this kind of 1/8" Jack under the Input Jack, also very similar one to each other...

My pedal DOES HAVE this kind of connection, but a bit smaller and "inside the pedal", like inside a hole, like the new models (those have AC jack), not like the other i'd mentioned before... I believe this pedal is the first reissue Jim Dunlop did on 1990-1991 when bought MXR...

Could anybody tell me if I'm right? It's a bit hard for me to know when my pedal was made... Thanks!

Diego

First off, are the switch/jacks soldered directly to the circuit board? If so, it is definitely a Dunlop reissue - they redesigned the MXR pedals to this configuration in the early '90s, so it's a dead giveaway.

The first year or so, the redesigned Dunlop reissues used the 1/8" adapter jack found in your pedal, so provided that it has pcb-mounted jacks/switch, that jack type would put it around 1990-91.

Before the redesign, Dunlop did actually manufacture the MXR pedals to their earlier (block logo) specs, using chassis-mounted jacks/switch. So there are Dunlop reissues around that look just like "real" MXR's. But again, if it has pcb-mounted jacks/switch, it is definitely a reissue.

Andreas, thanks a lot...

I agree with you, i believe mine was made in early 90's, perhaps 1990-1991 as you said... Its orange colour it's lighter than actual reissues, and yes, the jack is mounted to the circuit...

Anyway, I've got another Phase 90 bought this year, so it's a very recent reissue... When I got this from the 90's some days ago, the first thing I did was try both pedals in chain in order to notice any difference in sound, and believe me, the "older" one, despite it belongs to Dunlop era, sounds warmer..

It has less treble than the newer reissue, and less "metalic" sound... But I think that only a well-trained person would notice that kind of differene between sound, actual reissues from MXR do sound very well indded...
