Weve had this topic before but by the nature of the question the opinions may change
What Boss MIT or late MIJ pedals could in the future be rare and valuable?
Bossarea stated in one topic that relatively few EH-2 was made so this is for sure a candidate. XT-2 and PW-2 has been considered as candidates since the publication of The Boss Book. PQ-4 & PN-2 are known to catch big prices.
My guess is: MZ-2 SD-2 DD-3 MIJ FT-2 PS-2/3 DSD-2/3 RV-2/3

yup EH-2 will be soon. even this past month it seems everyone is looking for one. i expect them to be over the 100 dollar mark soon.
i think pretty much any current "medium rare" (as i like to call them) pedals will be classified as rare soon enough.
these include
HR-2 PQ-4 FZ-2 SD-2

how bout the HF-2? don't see many of those around?
i can see the EH-2 becoming like the SP-1.
the PH-1 will be a major money maker aswell in the next few years. |

How long does a pedal have to become rare and valuable? If there is not any interest early on, it might just fade into obscurity rather than becoming a collectible rarity. Out of the older pedals that are now rare and valuable are there many that were "discovered" long after they were discontinued? I think only the SG-1 and SP-1 fit that description. Those ones are special since they are also from very early on in the Boss line up.
As the owner of a mint in box with manual EH-2, it is nice to think it might become the next SP-1. I don't really see that happening though. |

| As far as future rare and valuable pedals are concerned, I would say DD-2. It is the first in the long running Boss DD digital delay series. It influenced the designs of other effects pedal manufacturers. It also made possible guitar styles like The Edge from U2. |

| Doesn't the Edge use a Memory Man? I've seen 2 on a live video before. |

| I'm not sure what the Edge uses for a delay. He has probably gone through a couple different ones over the years. I was just pointing out the DD-2 paved the way for that style of playing. |

| I'm not a U2 fan at all (Mainly due to Bono) but I'm pretty sure he uses a Memory Man, but yeah, the DD-2 definitely paved the way for that style. |

i was thinking the HM-2 as well, but this is a huge pedal and there are so many units sold. they have been out of production for quite a while, but i think these will always be floating around. i dont think theyre quite rare enough to ever be a future rarity, or at least not a distant future. |

| LM-2 is one of my favorites. It is already a rare pedal. I don't think it really has enough of a following to become valuable though. |

i think the LM-2 is kind of a hidden treasure type effect. the average pedal stomper will probably not appreciate the full value of this baby. it is one of my essential pedals.
pedal values are strange though. again like the EH-2. last year nobody wanted one and this year they are starting to climb in average price and theres more people looking for them. even simple effects like the SP-1 go for huge.
i think theres different categories for pedal rarity and its always changing. for instance the SG-1 and SP-1 are definately "super rares" but in the past few years, the VB-2 has definately entered this category, and certain pedals (such as the DC-2, DM-2) are starting to qualify as super rares judging by their selling price.
i think the main deciding factor in pedal value is the popularity VS the production period. the PW-2, HR-2, and PQ-4 didnt sell very well and were only produced for a few years. these will be the pedals that become rare. pedals such as the HM-2, BF-2 and PH-2 will never really be considered rare because even though they are out of production, there are so many of them out there. these are dime-a-dozens.
plus multi's are taking over and i dont think the single stomp has much more to do. |

Here's some more approximate production totals.
PQ-4 - 15000 PQ-3B - 11000 AW-2 - 42000 PW-2 - 17000 XT-2 - 20000 DD-5 - 90000 SD-2 - 50000 PS-3 - 28000 RV-3 - 105000 HR-2 - 27000 FZ-2 - 30000 FZ-3 - 15000 HM-3 - 70000 LM-2B - 20000 CH-1 - 380000 and counting
I've only looked at pedals with production started after March 1989 as I didn't want to take the previous serial number system into account. |
