(...Just to get some tips on what to aim for in the video store this x-mas.)
Here is my contribution. I think both these were released late 2008, but anyway...
For best movie of the year I would vote for "Slumdog millionaire": http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=slumdog For its good storytelling, both funny and shocking.
For best genre movie, in this case the vampire genre, I would vote for "Let the right one in": http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/ "Let the right one in" felt like a new approach to the vampire genre, just as "6th sense" felt as a new approach to the ghost genre. Here is a trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICp4g9p_rgo&feature=player_embedded
Let the right one in:

Slumdog millionaire:

| District 9 (ignore the technology inconsistencies - the comment on human nature truly disturbed me), followed closely by Slumdog Millionaire. |

I didn't see Slumdog Millionaire, but I wanted to.
Maybe we could start another threat with the worst movies, in which we could feature 2012 and things like that, from what some people have said of them. |

Snap. District 9 (eagerly awaiting District 10) followed closely by Slumdog Millionaire. |

| I finally got around to watching The Wrestler...That movie depressed the crap out of me because it reminded me of many of the wrestlers I used to work with in Tennessee who were at, or would eventually be at, similar points in their wrestling careers... |

Here is a "concept poster" to the future Hollywood-remake of "Let the right one in". Actually it is supposed to be based on the novel rather than the film, the novel earlier released as "Let me in".

Is Dossier K. Flemish or Walloon? From the title I'm guessing it's in French... I'm always on the lookout for good Francophone films. |
