Maybe a previous owner ran the battery cable through the hole so they could swap the battery without having to unscrew the cover? It would stop the cable getting crushed when pressing the pedal. An extreme measure to take though.
Probably just a stress flaw in the metal that cracked - the battery connector wasn't placed properly inside and was hanging over the edge, pedal was closed up and when stepped on it put undue stress on that area.
By looking closely you could probably tell if the chunk was cut out intentionally or broken out accidentally. Maybe dropping a pedal when the top is open could break the thin casing at that point. |

Yea thats probably why they cut it. He probably didnt have an PSA, or anything like that, but had one of those adaptors that the end is like a 9V battery, so he had to run a cable in to connect with the connector inside.
I dont think your second thought could be it though, since the connection inside the ebay pedal looks good
A previous owner of your pedal could have done that too, grdlefty. Just a coincidence that it was a PH-1r |

It's fun because my PH1r also has a hole, but not in that place, in fact it is located just at the little sticker's place, near the power-supply connection... never knew why, but the pedal works fine, so... |
