OK, So its not "reliced" yet, but a few weeks in the back of the firewood truck and it will have the "MOJO"!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
next to its retarded cousin (older Indo Squier but in green) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They changed the tuners in the interim: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So "Greeny" had its electronics replaced with the pickups, pots, switch and wiring from a Peavey Strat. "Blackie" will need a bit of work (and relicing) before it metamorph's into a suitable Indo Squier. Anyone with some real Strat pickups moldering away in your closet, email me!
I should mention that the newer one has the smaller tuners; the older green one has the bulky-looking things. |
If the Indo strats are as good as the Indo Teles, I'm sure you'll be having lots of fun playing that thang man... |
Laurie --
If I can manage to shrink down a JPG small enough to post here, I'll post one detailing the firewood truck relicing process. That ought to get your other half believing .
But I'm serious about searching out real strat electronics to replace the cheesy bits stuck into this Indo... Greeny sounds much better with her Peavey internals.
Frankly, I think that they upgraded the pickups, switches and pots in the five-year interim between my two Indos. This last one sounds quite a bit better than the other. But the high-school kid that sold it to me seemed quite happy to get forty bucks for it, and he threw in a tuner. |
So --
To alleviate any doubts, I've snapped a few pics of the latest batch of "relics-to-be" sent by eager clients from Rwanda, Luxembourg and Oklahoma. A couple of electrics and a 000-28 acoustic.
Since the majority of my clients prefer to remain anonymous for obvious reasons, of course I can't provide any references.
But trust me... by the time these are done, they will be real beat up. You're just seeing the early stages of the road-rash process here. Most of the technique is too proprietary to divulge online. I will say that more layers of firewood will be added, as well as some gravel and dead critters. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The MOP torchiere-style inlay on this 000-28 looks much too fresh now. But after my (PAF) Ciggy Burn Treatment, it will have that authentic "EC garage acoustic" look. The trick is a combination of chainsaw-mix gas, sheep dung seasoned to perfection, and vintage White Owl cigars applied perfectly between the strings and peghead. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By the way, the vintage toilet garden in the background is still a work in progress. One has some nice old-school rose varieties growing, but the ones lying askew will need to be replanted this spring.
More to come... |
^^^^^ Not in OKlahoma, but I've been there a few times! OK City, Ponca Nation, Tulsa, what-have-you.... It has some beautiful fishing spots, but I just can't live there.
Did one year in the Midwest, that was fine. |
happy birthday, Disco Stu! that's a nice Strat, and I'm sure it will be even better once you've "broken it in" (I don't even want to know how you season the sheep dung)...
but if I may ask, what model G&L is that in the back of yr truck? |
^^^^ PT, That G&L is the SC-1. I tried to post a closeup of the headstock, but it did not work for me... I screwed up something.
I admit it's not from Tunisia... I've had it about twenty years |
That's real relicing Disco Stu - as a certain Mr Rory Gallagher would surely have approved of
I still can't believe that I've been less than a foot away from that famous bare wood strat and I didn't touch it - I wish I had but I didn't know the significance of it back then (Sheffield City Hall, England, UK 1970 something...ah those were the days, when relics were relics)
Does the vintage toilet garden feature in the relicing process in any way? It could add a bit of something extra special to the finish I'm guessing....  |
I saw Rory's guitar last year in the museum in dublin at a exhibition of the electric guitar...Rory's strat took pride of place as the central exhibit and his AC30 was off to one side in a glass case as well......if your ever in Dublin in the middle of Temple Bar in the city centre there is 'Rory Gallagher corner' on the main square where there is a bronze replica of his strat on the wall.... i'm halfway through reading Gerry McAvoys autobiography about his life and the 20 years he spent as Rory's bass player...very good read so far.... ...i still have my original 'live in europe' on vinyl....... .......  |
