I only know of the BF-2, BF-3 and HF-2 (Ok, bossarea, fill in the blanks!)
I have the first two and think I prefer the BF-2, but I've started to hear a few things about the HF-2. What do you folks think?

I have both the BF-2 MIJ and the HF-2 MIJ and frankly, I can´t say wich one to have in my setup. I though think that the HF-2 does "finger on the tape" sounds really good, natural sounding but only pitch a little from time to time. A cool effect. If I have place for both of them I´ll have them both in. So, I have the same question.

I love the HF-2 but... when allied to a bright sounding guitar and amp at sufficient volume, I have seen audience members sticking their fingers in their ears to escape the, er, clarity of the sound...

The BF-2's a good all-rounder; it'll make all the whoosh noises that you want and you can find them cheap. I'd go for that one...

The only one missing is the BF-2B that can be used on guitar as well as bass.

I used to prefer the HF-2 but has lately come back to prefer the BF-2.
It's got a real classic flanger sound.

My HF-2 because it handles the high frequencies and can make a HM-2 sound like a jet engine

yea i find that the BF-2 is great for clean while the HF-2 works on both clean and distortion really well.

now if they'll only make a high-band phaser i'll be happy....sigh

I was at the rehearsalroom today and testing my pedalboard. I really cant decide wich one to use. Frankly, Im not sure if shall use flanger at all. I really don´t find it useful. Does anyone have any good samples of settings and on records etc so that I can hear what the effect can do? I have chorus and a rotovibe and a phaser, so i really don´t use it. It feels bad, cause i like the unit, but i doesn´t do anything that the other modulation pedals do, it´s a little same same but different. Im really confused here...

The first good example of a cool flanger part that comes to mind is the part right in front of the guitar solo in Lenny Kravitz' "Are you gonna go my way".

There's a bunch of Van Halen songs with flanger (Ain't talking bout love, Unchained...) and Phil Lynott plays his bass through a flanger on the Thin Lizzy disco type song "Dancing in the moonlight".

Probably a lot of '80s songs.

I always thought the opening to Rush's "Spirit of Radio" sounds like flanger, too (and used a lot by Alex elsewhere, I think). So far what I'm thinking (and please don't flame me)is the Boss versions may just not be the best examples...my favorite so far is the EH Electric Mistress (and such a cool name...)

Was at the reherarsal yesterday and now I just love the BF-2. I figured that both chorus and phaser is not that useable in our music, and instead of using three units, the BF-2 do all the stuff by it self. It both does a cool chorus-sound in one setting with the manual knob near minimum, or a jetplane sound close to phaser in other settings. So I decided to put out the PH-2 and the CE-2 from the pedalboard and just keep the BF-2. So now im gonna put in my newly arrived HM-2 and my other new pedal DSD-2 instead. All happy!

I always thought flangers were a weak spot in the Boss lineup. I would go with the BF-2 if I had to have a flanger. I am more of a chorus person though.

I momentarily had a BF-2, but for me it just didn't equal the sound of the Deluxe Electric Mistress. It's just a shame how poorly built EH pedals are compared to Boss, though.

I'm with you, Stahlhart. I will say, though, that so far the BF-2 has been "the best of the rest". I've tried the BF-3 and currently have a Digitech Turbo Flange. Not impressed with it so far, but there are so many settings I really need to give it a better audition. I had a DOD FX75-B and it wasn't too bad...the hunt continues!

Well I have a BF-3 and it's nice. Four modes and it's stereo ! I never played with a HF-2, but I wish to get one someday, must be great too...

Hi Guys

I really like the Boss BF-2 but for me, the HF-2 has the edge on both.

I have a Yamaha Effector Series FL-01 from the 70's Pre-Boss
4 knobs, this has to be one of the nicest sounding Flangers I have heard, but I have never heard the EHX Deluxe Electric Mistress.

The Fl-01 is highly sought after by the Keyboard Synth guys, & you will have to be prepared to but up a long & decent fight, on evilbay when you find one.
Unless you are lucky enough to spot one, that no-0ne is bidding on.

It has a really wicked Res. Control.

Regards Dr. Bob
